I think it's a waste of money. The money would be better spent on the NHS. We have lots of problems in this country that could be solved with that amount of money. I agree that when the oympics are well organised they can benefit the economy but when was the last time anything was organised well in this country. Wembley, the dome etc. It will cost loads more than expected, only a small area of London will benefit and we will all spend the next fifty years paying for it.

The 2012 London Olympics is already going to cost several times more than the estimate. The politicians know that Londoner's are already refusing point-blank to pick up the tab by having their council tax raised ever higher each year. To this end the Olympics Committee are desperately searching for money from other sources. Most Londoner's now do not want or care about the 2012 Games.
Westminster City Corporation is already talking about the possibility of serious over crowding on their streets during the 2012 Games. Oxford Street, they think, will be gridlocked. So what's new?
These 2012 Games are going to be a chaoitic mess for London and Londoners. We will be unable to conduct normal business or go about. The trains, buses and tubes are already over crowded. Where are we going to put the expected millions who are likely to turn up for the 2012 Games?
Rip out all the seats. Standing only.

I don't. The Olympics are a symbol of peace, of being able to come together in a contest of nations without blowing each other up.
Better spent on hospitals? well, think about the great role models the games create, which create more healthy people. They won't have to be in hospital so much.
Carbon footprint and bio fuel? Whatever. I don't know about that and I don't care. It's just be a novelty that'll attract attention (and tourists).
At it's good for the economy. Bring tourists back to the UK, after some boycotted and others got scared of terrorists. Also, building stuff gives people jobs, and better stadiums than millennium domes.
It's worth it. For every penny spent, you get a pound worth back.

Yeah, and while the Tax payer is made to cough up the extra billions to pay for it, Gorden Brown will be blowing 10's of billions of tax payers money abroad, because Britain is so selfless that it goes without decent Prisons, Hospitals, housing, Policing, and law & order so that all the money can be given to African Governments so that some Minister can stuff it in a Swiss account.

I can see it now "Britain introduces Draconian security legislations to protect Olympics" !!!
This event in 2012 is particularly dangerous in todays climate. Britain will be on the World stage and will have a direct link to the 'hearts and minds' of almost every country on the globe.
After discovering what our government is capable of (false flag ops.), i think the olympics is not just a waste of money but an ideal opportunity for a World changing catalclismic event. I hope i'm wrong.

You are right - the opening ceremony will be all that you say and more, proving to the world that blacks & muslims are happy in england & all of us will share in the cost of the olympic project, and few will share in the benefits, and why did we put so much money into it in the first place? Didn't we have a world class stadium for every sport already? Why go so deep into debt when they could have left a private company responsible for the construction site & selling the place for a profit afterward instead?

Agreed. Total waste. Another example of our money going to the south east / capital. Anyone remember the millennium dome? How about Wembley? How much will the Olympic Stadium REALLY cost us?

Actually when the Games are well planned and ran they are an economic boon to whomever is hosting (see Salt Lake City). They provide upgrades to infrastructure, new facilities and attract visitors from around the world. The spending infuses new money into the economy in the form of jobs and new businesses. The facilities are typically located all over the area, not just in one place which spreads the benefits.

A complete waste of time and money. It does nothing for Britain...it is all about London and a few cronies who will get rich on the back of it.
I am already planning to be out of the country for the entire duration of the games and I will punch anybody who mentions it to me in the face.

You are correct the only people who will benefit from this are the crooks who run the companies providing all the spin offs and food franchises who will almost certainly be Americans, drug dealers, and of course the spivs who sell tickets on eBay and such like as there will always be fools willing to buy tickets to such non events.
