The real question is .. where, and how can I save videos, and convert them into a format compatible with powerpoint. I am trying to insert a video into a powerpoint slide.

Use an online tool to get the FLV.
Use a Convertor to change the FLV to AVI/WMV.
Insert.

hi

the easiest way is to copy the link of the video you want

open keepvid.com and paste the link there

then the website will give you a .flv file to download

download it and then convert it with a program called Total Video Converter to any format you want

if you search for downtube on the internet you can install it and downloas vidios from youtube by copying the last part of the URL from the website.

There is also a converter in the program to change the file to something like an avi or even a 3PG to use on your phone

first look how you can save it on your system then that is the second step
right click on you mouse view the pop up you see save target as click on it
