and the only one you can depend on is yourself? I'm in my 40's but I can recall feeling this way since about high school (from time to time). Is this a jaded attitude? Are my expectations too high?

Very good point. I expect others to forgive me but do I forgive them. Oh yes, I let myself down sometimes and I can be hard on myself, too.

Yes, but that is the downfall of humanity. People will always let you down no matter how much they care about you. Realize that you probably let those around you down more often than you think as well. Everybody, with no exceptions (well except maybe Jesus), falls short of always following through on their word and living up to every expectation and need of others. It's a matter of learning to forgive everytime (especially those that are close to you) because you need forgiveness from them too (just like me or anybody else does from their family and freinds), and if you don't then your going to continue to view everyone you love as a failure the rest of your life.

sidenote- Do you ever find you let yourself down?

Everyone feels that way at times. People get so caught up in their own lives and problems,we sometimes tend to ignore those who are in need. Depending on yourself is a good thing, because in reality..you are the only one you can depend on. We cant always expect someone else to be there for us.

Oh boy have I felt that way...

*** My whole life I've been able to count only on myself and maybe from time to time some of my real friends, the ones that have pushed trough the bad times with me.
*** Family *** I have managed to always be there but every time that I need some help, support no one is ever able to do it, not even to listen cause they are so busy with their own things. And I'm not talking only about $$$, non of my personal goals are important to them.
*** So my friend there is nothing wrong with you expectations, keep going and push through and when you fall get up and do it again with mre force & trust in yourself cause ultimetaly you'll have the satisfaction that you did it, you got were you wanted to be & you know what it is going to taste 1million times better, cause you no matter what you are a winner and after all we only need to proof who we are to oursleves.
