I had this problem too. I started by recording my voice - get used to the sound of your voice as it sounds different when you hear it recorded.

I jumped in at the deep end - I had an audition for a band, so had to perform one of my songs - this was the first time I had ever sung in front of anyone. I'm now in a band, we've just recorded our debut album - it can be done!

It helps if you sing something that you've written yourself - you'll mean what you're singing and no-one can say "you're singing the wrong words" or "that's not how so-and-so sings it".

Good luck!!!

I read your lyrics earlier today. You can write songs honey I will give you that. To be honest with you don't open up in front of mommy cuz she will love anything you do. Even if you sound like William Hung she will still think you are great. That's what us mommy's do LOL. Try to sing in front of a few friends. Maybe 2-3 the most and see what they tell you. Tell them to be honest. If they did not like it find out why so you can improve. When I was younger I would put my headphones on close my eyes and let it flow. If you want to be famous singing in front of a bunch of people is what you have to do. And be able to sing on demand. Don't be afraid to hear bad feedback sometimes too. That is the only way you can make yourself better. You are still young honey but keep working on it and you will be fine.

You should try just getting a simple kareokee machine and record a little something on there and let you're mom listen to it first. That way, you don't have to sing in front of her and she can here you're voice and tell you what she thinks. Then when she tells you that you have a great voice, try singing in front of her. She already told you you have a great voice, now try singing to her live. After this, try adding a couple more people to the group, you're dad, a sibling, an aunt or uncle, ect. This should help boost up you're confidence.

Knowing that you can sing well really helps. Practicing in front of your mom will help. Knowing the lyrics of the songs that you sing really well will assist you in your confidence. Singing the songs that you can hit all of the notes without difficulty in front of others is crutial. With the practice in front of your mom, then you can move on to singing in front of other people that you know. I have found that singing in front of others that did not know me so well helped. You will boost your confidence! Be comfortable with yourself. Believe that you were born with an awesome voice. Practice, practice, practice. Sing songs that you can relate to. Sing songs that have a special meaning in your heart. Have fun with it!

sing in front of the mirror to see how you look, record your voice and dont tell anyone its you and see that they say...that can either help or break you because they can say its good or bad. i actually practiced my stuff for a few weeks before i let anyone hear my music...i need to convince myself its good first before anyone else...so just keep working on it

Imagine everyone in their underwear.. trust me. It's stupid, but if you concentrate, or just look above everyone's heads instead, you will feel much better. After a while, you'll gain confidence.
It worked for me and now I've got a mouth the size of the Mersey tunnel.
