I believe they need to keep him, since he has been gettin better because of his skate. He's a veteran leader and something the Flyers really need right now, along with Hatcher to put on the big hits and make defensive plays.

The Flyers need to rebuild & they haven't got much in the farm system. You can thank ex GM Clarke for his insistance on signing the big d-men like hatcher who for instance was great in Dallas under the old clutch & grab system before the lockout but his effectiveness has been hampered by the new rules.
Forsberg has the skills, his time in Colorado proved that. But the question is how effective can he be to get the Flyers into the playoffs this year or next, no chance this year & with the long term contract siginings the organization have given to some free agents they signed were bad moves. So realistically Forsberg can't do it all alone.

The team would be far better off testing the market up to the trade deadline for the best deal they can get & then decide if the trade would improve their chances going forward.

The worst thing that could happen is they don't recieve what they want by any team by the deadline & keep him, best would be they get younger & improve.
Time will tell how good the management is by their handling of the mess they have now.

Within a couple more seasons this team could be competitive again.

So dangle Forsberg as trade bait, nothing to lose by sniffing around.

It all depends on what is offered in return. The Flyers are going nowhere this year, so there's no playoff run to gear up for. If they can get some good prospects and/or draft picks for Forsberg, they ought to go ahead and do it. Like another person said, the worst that happens is there's no good offers out there, and the Flyers keep him.

One thing is Forsberg has a no-trade clause, so he'd have to be willing to move. He has indicated that he would prefer to stay in Philadelphia, so it would take the right situation for him to waive the clause.

Another thing was that Forsberg could be dealt, but come back to the Flyers as a free agent over the summer. It's certainly been done before (Mark Recchi and Doug Weight did it this past offseason), but I'm sure if I see that happening.

Flyers suck?? Colorado has a million greater factor, that could be a million greater factor then the Flyers do appropriate now. and that they have got lost TEN promptly, if the Flyers might have performed accepted over that era that they had nonetheless be interior the precise 4 or 5 interior the East. Forsberg ran abode like accepted, does not wanna handle the rigidity in Philly or everywhere else he might have long previous that could have been a real contender. that is nice he did no longer come to Philly basically be the whiny distraction he develop into the full time he develop into here. relish "Foppa" perhaps he will play a sport or 2 and run decrease back to Sweden reason his destructive lil foot is harm returned. And why pay interest to Eklund? nameless hockey blogger? C'mon like somebodies gonna comprehend him on the food market or something?? Hockey Buzz sucks now besides you gotta pay to get any genuine advice anyhow.

Why would the Flyers keep a guy who spends most of his time on the I.R? As for Hatcher, the team would be better off setting up pylons as defencemen for half the game. There would be no difference. Any attacking forward with speed just goes around him anyway. Trade Forsberg, Hatcher, Calder, Esche, Kapanen, Jones, hell, trade as many players as you can and start replenishing our prospects. Our team is firmly entrenched in "rebuilding mode" thanks to Bobby Clarke. It may take years to restock the team with the talent they need to help out Gagne and take the team back to respectability.

I think the Flyers should trade him. I my opition he is one of the top three players in the world when healthy. His "problem" is that he plays too hard and is always playing with injuries. As a Ranger fan I would love to have him this year for a playoff run but would not want to count on him for next year. As the Flyers are pretty much out of the playoff hunt they should get whatever they can for him.

trade him... he's probably a little too broken now to expect him to be the Forsberg of the 90's.. but Forsberg is still Forsberg and he'll be good locker room material for any playoff team and a confidence booster on the ice...

as for the Flyers, funny how on the year they signed him, Flyers were cup favorites.. even I picked them..

but as a Leafs fan and anti-Clarke.. I'm loving it seeing them suffer... =P

Forsberg, I think, will stay with the Flyers, barring an incredible offer the team can't refuse. He's too good to just give away.

He is getting pretty injury prone and is not getting younger, so I would trade him now that he is playing well, and get something good to help the team in the future. This year there is no play-offs for the flyers.
