I was always taught that Columbus was the first European in the Americas. Then later, I was taught that the Vikings used to sail as west as Greenland and Canada. Now that I'm a teacher, I tell my students both, the time line being a little unclear, but I also mention a little know fact that perhaps the Chinese might have made over here before Columbus.

to the best of my knowledge the vikings(900s) came before the Chinese(1300s) who came before Columbus(1400s),also an Irish saint,Brendan is said to gave followed the viking path .

There are theories based on scientific discoveries that the Vikings were here before any other white men. I have watched documentories on the subject, but can't remember exactly where to find this information.
