In this cold season, I've been hearing a lot of it in the office, and don't know which word describes it best.

My dictionary says

Sniffle : To snuffle slightly

Snuffle : To breathe hard or in an obstructed manner through the nose. To sniff. To speak through the nose. Also and act or sound of snuffling, a snuffling tone, cant ; an unobstructed condition of the nose.

Snivel : to run at the nose : to whimper : to whine tearfully : to talk sanctimoniously and insincerely. mucus of the nose. an affected tearful state.

sniffle is runny nose, snuffle is congested nose, and sniveling is whining and talking through your nose.
