What right to the rotten Democrats have to destroy cause masssive, widespread unemplohment and skyrocketing inflation, just when the economy is going great? What right do they have to prevent new companies and small comanies from hiring people and growing?
Would the Democrats really like to take down the Stars and Stripes, raise the hammer and sickle while they're in session in Congress, and play the former Soviet National Anthem?
How could a Socialist minimum wage law possibly be constitutional at all, when it interferes with the right of consenting adults to enter into a private contract to engage in legal work, and agree upon mutually acceptable terms?
Most of you liberals are too ignorant and stupid to even understand the above question, but nevertheless, I'll pay you $100 if you can, and if it's logical.
Finally, what are you going to do when you're out of work because of all this, watch American Idol?
Michael Savage - sorry, you're wrong on this one!

You are absolutely right. You are right also that they cannot see it nor understand it. Their thoughts and actions are truly bad for this country. Their works will end up making this a socialist country or have a muslim flag hanging above our decapitated heads.

I presume this is a quote from Michael Savage-- so, of course its a crazy-man rant.
Well let's see...
- Min. Wage affects about 3-5% of the working population. So, in the grant scheme of things is a nit.
- Min wage hike was approved largely on a bi-partisan basis and included tax breaks to help out the small bus. guys.
- Quite a few states have already enacted their own hike in min. wage. And in those that haven't, I'm sure there are places where market conditions warrant higher than min. wage.
- Min. wage hasn't changed in several years. So raising it over the course of 3 years isn't that big of a deal.
- I'm sure Savage gets a nice paycheck and raises all the time-- he has no room to talk about raising salaries.
- Private contract to work? Gee, I suppose we should also have "private contracts" for minors to work 16 hours days again -- was that ok, no.

The hammer and sickle have an prolonged history, with the hammer representing marketplace and the sickle representing agriculture---see case in point the Austrian nationwide coat of palms. It grew to become into accompanied by the gang that took over Russia after WWI, and is ultimate difficulty-free for that. A hammer by itself might desire to represent tension or potential, even nevertheless it is probable only one thing that the dressmaker of the binder theory grew to become into exciting. For what it is worth, socialism has an prolonged custom interior the U. S., nevertheless it is been unpopular for a pair of generations, and it bargains with economics. it is not un-American.

Requiring a minimum wage for all work involving interstate commerce (which, incidentally, is the only situation where the Federal Government has the authority to specify a minimum wage) is simply an appropriate response to the labor market failures inherent in our current economic system.
One of the main purposes of government is to correct inequities caused by market failures. The market for wages, especially at the low end, does not meet the classic definition of a well-functioning market because of lack of sufficient information, lack of choice, etc.
Incidentally, a minimum wage is not "socialism." Socialism involves the government providing services (like health care or utilities) which would, in a purely capitalistic economy, be provided by the private sector. Please try at least to use the proper terminology the next time you engage in one of your ill-mannered, ill-considered, and ill-informed screeds.
Now where's my hundred?

Of course the Democrats would turn everything over to the government for oversight if they could. Somehow, they fail to grasp the concept that natural economic pressures result in the greatest gains for everyone in society. I have lobbied against the min wage increase since they brought it up. Abolish the min. wage, I say, and then people who don't make much will be motivated to get an education and do something with their lives that doesn't involve deep fat frying.

Another moot question just like the flag burning amendment. They are playing to the voting base, not addressing a serious issue.
Take a look around and see if you can find any job that only pays the old minimum wage. Go ahead, we will wait. Right, everybody who runs a business was paying more than that to start with.
So, um, who cares comrade?

I think we should make the minimum wage $50 an hour. Then nobody would be poor.
See, I could be a politician too.
But to answer your question, we have seen a large bipartisan agreement to the raise, assuming the House doesn't strip the tax reductions for small businesses.
The problem is, Democrats push the increase forward as a part of their agenda, and it is very tough for any politician to take a stance against it.
Not enough citizens understand that it actually hurts unskilled workers (the poor), so when a politician takes a stance against minimum wage, it seems to the public that he is taking a stance against the poor and for the benefit of "greedy" companies.

Vote Republican. Raise minimum wage and guess what, they raise prices to compensate for it. The Dem's have this pipe dream that they can give things to the people. LISTEN! No one is going to "Give" you anything. The Dem's think they need to "Take care" of us. Bullsh!t, I'll take care of myself. Interest rates are low, jobs are plentiful and the stock market is booming....what do the Dem's want to change?

Here in Washington, there is the highest minimum wage in the country ($7.90). And, despite your predictions, the state economy is doing great, there isn't massive, widespread unemployment or skyrocketing inflation.
So wouldn't it seem logical that increasing the minimum wage for other states would be similar to states that already have that increase?
