There are no such things as 'goodies' or 'baddies', it all depends on which country you come from and support. During WWI, the Germans saw the British, French and Americans as the 'baddies' because they believed that the treaty of versailies was unfair. They had to take the blame for the war, and pay for it. Germans saw Hitler as their saviour, he and all who followed were the 'goodies'. The British French and Americans saw the Germans as the 'baddies' in WWII because of the death camps and the blitz, etc. but the Germans probably thought that they weren't doing anything wrong. If Germany won the war, then they would be the goodies, they would have written the text books, but it's vice-versa. Winning wars doesn't make you right, what was the whole point of WWI?- that wasn't a matter of right or wrong, I bet hardly anyone knows what that was all about.

Wars are not necessarily won by the good guys but by the side that has the best military strategy. During the WW2 the world was fighting Naziism and the military expansionism of Japan. Both these countries were guilty of horrendous war crimes in their efforts to achieve dominance. That is not to say, however, that all Germans were Nazis or that all Japanese were bad.
No matter what a bad state the world is in today it would be far worse if the Allies had not won the war. You may be too young to have known what it is like when a country is at war but, for us older people who lived during WW2 and who suffered the privations of war and the bombings etc, there is no doubt in our minds that the best side won.

No, Hitler killed millions of Jews, gipsies and disabled people. Only for the Germans and their allies was he the good guy. I'd just like to point out to Maggie that the US did not win the war, it was the British, the French, the Dutch, the Canadians and whoever else fought against the Germans. the US was pretty late arriving so we wont have you taking the credit thanks very much. And what about in Vietnam, did the good guys win there? I'd just like to say that the US lost that war, though few Americans would admit it.
Sorry about the rant.

Not whoever wins a war is the good guy.......
By winning it does not make you right, it makes you either stronger, smarter, or richer.
The Germans believe they are the good guys. So to them yes. To me they could not be the good guys. If they had not slaughtered the masses of Jews things may be different. But they did, and to say it is awful, inhumane, an abomination, and against nature is the largest understatement of the year. There are no words to describe the evils of there "final solution" and I hope to never be able to be fully understand there perversion of treating man kind.
So NO. The mean, bad guys lost WW2!

Who won the war? Was it the people who were right or the people who were left? Philosophical answer care of Robin Williams but quite pertanent. Just because your forces are weaker doesn't mean you weren't the worth victor! Ethically the way the germans treated jews, homosexual gypsies etc meant that they were always an immoral contender. So in this case I honestly think the right people won and not just because I am british. I think the Brits (or the english) were wrong in their various wars against the Irish. In the whole Iraq war (the 2nd ime around) I think the 'allied' forces (US. UK etc) were fighting the right war but for the wrong reasons. They had no justifiable reason for going to war they just wanted a scapegoat for 9/11 and Saddam Hussein had been allowed to 'get away' with the fist gulf war. However please do not take this opinion as a reflection on the maginifcent work our soldiers are doing. And equally as an army brat born in Germany who lived there as an adult and who works for a german company now, the individual german soldiers who were fighting and following their orders should not be maligned and held up as criminals!
And I'd like to remind everyone that it was the ALLIED forces - British, Irish, canadian, Gurkhas, Australian and American - who won WW2 and not JUST the Americans.

No that is not true, France lost in WW2 yet they are considered to be good guys.
It is a matter of atrocities caused by power hungry nations.
Even if the USA/ UK win the war in Iraq & Afganistan the camp in Guantanimo Bay will show the US to be the bad guys in history even though they tried to save two nations they went too far & it back fired

think about it like this, every country and most of the people in it thinks of their own country as a the good guys and the rival country and people as the bad guys, however the rival people think the same thing. So in the end there is really no good guys or bad guys. It is all about where you live and personal opinion

The winners always write the history, they get to manipulate the facts and paint themselves in a good light. Of course if Hitler had won the war, we all would have grown up believing he was the good guy.

I think that if we could have understood what Hitler was saying we might have been able to make up our own minds as to what the right course of action was, we used to laugh at the pictures of Hitler on the pathe news at the cinema, (as we were supposed to) but I once saw a Hitler speech on the TV and he was making a lot of sense? have you noticed that we almost never see his speeches in English? I wonder why?

There is no way that the Germans were the good guys, unless you believe in slaughtering millions of people. The US won and the US was the good guys in that war because of the horrible things that Hitler did and the Japanese government was backing Hitler. That is why we were the good guys and they were NOT!
