Legalising prostitution has a number of potential advantages:-
+ Prostitutes will be licensed (as they are in Hamburg, for example). As part of the Licence they must be regularly checked for sexually transmitted diseases, which reduces the risk of spreading AIDS and other STDs. Punters are much more likely to go to a licensed prostitute because they know they will be safer from disease and robbery.
+ Licensing removes the Pimp from the equation. Regulated prostitutes are much less likely to be subjected to violence as a result. Most are quite capable of managing their own businesses or using a "madam" as receptionist
+ Removing pimps means the girls are less likely to be addicted to drugs (many pimps get the girls hooked on drugs so that they have to work to support their habit). This eliminates both violence and drug crime. Removing the drugs from the equation will probably do more to reduce the overall number of prostitutes than any other single measure. This is perhaps the strongest argument for legalising prostitution.
+ Many prostitutes, particularly in Europe, are illegal immigrants smuggled in by organised crime gangs of people traffickers. These same gangs are linked to drugs smuggling, illegal arms and even terrorism.
+ Licensing and legalising means that another crime is eliminated - tax evasion. As prostitution is a crime, the girls don't declare their income.
+ Licensing would mean that under-age girls aren't introduced into prostitution so easily, so another crime is removed or reduced.
Prostitution has been illegal for a very long time and has never been eliminated. As long as human nature remains what it is there will be prostitution, therefore the best approach is to remove the organised crime, violence, drugs and human misery that is currently associated with it.

Quite possible. But ever wondered at what cost?
How would your family react to it if your father often visit's a prostitute?
The cost would be breaking up the most vulnerable strands of the society - the families.
How could you ever think of such a wild thing? It's as inhumane as slavery, selling human flesh!!! If you really wanna control crime, develop some respect towards every other person you meet. That would not only reduce crime but maintain a perfect harmony in the society and finally lead to progress of the country...

Not crime, but I do think it would save a lot of police power if we legalized it. There wouldn't be thousands of police officers every day wasting time and arresting prostitues if it was legalized, and maybe more lives could be saved and more important crimes stopped.
But there would still be illegal prostitution--some couldn't afford what some people are saying would be the process to become a legal prostitute. They'd have to have licenses and regular checkups--unless it was free, many prostitues wouldn't be able to afford it.

What needs to be done is that prostitution is not coerced upon women who have no other viable ways of supporting themselves or their families. I query exactly what type of crime you feel this would prevent. If you are talking about crimes of a sexual nature you have to realize that rape and molestation have nothing to do with sex but rather are about power and control. Legalizing prostitution may cut down on the spread of disease, but I don't believe crime would be any better because of this.

I grew up in Germany, we have legal prostitutes. they have a regular check-up, bloodwork, ect.. it does keep std's down this has been proven. plus its a women body she can do whatever she wants with it, the only difference between a one night stand and prostitution, is money. the crime rate would go down, i think because there wouldnt be an pimps, controlling the women, and fighting for a certain section of street for them to walk. also strippers make money showing theyre body, they just dont screw theyre clients, atleast most dont.

It won't help control crime, something else will just take its place! And it will raise taxes cuz the government will have to spend more on healthcare since more diseases will be spread, just because people that visit prostitutes tend not to take very good care of themselves by using protection.
It will definately upset the pimps though!

Prostitution is legal in parts of Nevada. It doesn't control crime there. All is did was give the government something else to control and tax.

i imagine it should be very effective for women. a million. it ought to reduce down on the transmission of STDs 2. the ladies should be possibility-free from serial killers and rapists. 3. the ladies would not be on the mercy of her "pimp". 4. adult adult males ought to easily flow to confirm a prostitute extremely of the semi-prostitution they do now - choosing up a less than the effect of alcohol female at a bar and really utilising her. 5. the ladies ought to set their very personal limitations of what they're going to and could not do better actual. 6. the ladies should be paying taxes on their income. 7. there is not any better waste of detention middle time or prosecution for the adult adult males or the ladies. 8. adult adult males should be better discreet about it in the journey that they have "particular needs" and ought to't hit upon a female friend. possibly if some adult adult males were waiting to act out fantasies, they'd be a lot less probably to act out aggressivly in different techniques - many violent adult adult males look to have better than generic testosterone and sex drives. All in all, i imagine it really is the safest, maximum authentic looking answer. Making prostitution unlawful is like prohibition contained in the 20's - each body is going to do it besides, so it ought to besides be possibility-free and a lot less crime-ridden. From a females's rights element of view, they're going to be secure via predatory adult adult males and pimps, and ought to insist on utilising condoms, understanding that different females all will, too.

I think Red Light Districts is the way to go in large cities. It seems to work in Amsterdam, Germany and I think Australia also has one too. We will never stop prostitution unless the world eliminates poverty but I don't see that happening in my life time. I don't mean to sound pessimistic but it's true.

Laws cause crime when people become a law unto themselves, but i have heard this argument many times before and i have to say that i think it would actually work in some ways.
