Use a #12 wire since it is larger than a #14. The important thing to remember though is when connecting it to a cold water pipe you must be upstream of any fittings. The pipe dope on fittings acts as an insulator. You should make this connection on the street side of your shut-off valve at the house. Possibly simpler would be to drive in your own ground rod close to the TV and connect to that.

You have an older home if it is a 2 wire outlet.

The only way to fix the problem is to replace the outlet with a GFI Outlet.

DO NOT!!! REPEAT DO NOT run a ground to the cold water pipe, because this will give you a dual grounding path. Which in turn, during surges could very possibly blow up your new TV, because of the type of load that a television is.

Good luck

The size size wire as the power wires from the TV. The plastic jacket on the cord may be embossed with this information. If you don't know, use 14 gauge wire which is the size ground wire used for wiring a 20 amp circuit. Be sure to connect it to a cold water pipe, not a hot water pipe.
