Normally too much oil will not cause a head gasket to leak.
Can it cause the oil pump to fail, blow out the oil filter, cause the valve cover gaskets to leak, blow oil out of the dipstick tube ... yes to the above.

Get a spray bottle of Simple Green or Engine degreaser. With the engine luke warm (NOT HOT) spray down the anywhere there is oil or dirt... let sit for 2-3 minutes
Start car and let idle, using a garden hose rinse soap and dirt off engine.
You want the car to be running so if it begins to run rough stop with the water around that area!!
Once the engine is clean take it for a drive and look to see where the oil is seaping out.

Is it leaking around the tappet cover? You might need some motor work.
