It doesn't look like any schools outside of India call it a PGDBA. It looks like they are supposed to be equivalent. However, since no schools in India make it into the top 100 graduate business programs in the world, it is clear that they are not equivalent.

Answer from an Indian perspective:

PGDBM and MBA differ in accredition. Most of the universities and colleges affiliated to universities award MBA degree. However, PGDBM is a course of similar, if not exactly same curriculum, awarded by autonomous institutions. The trend was started by the IIMs( all IIMs award PGDBM and not MBA) and soon all private institutions joined the fray ................. All India Council for Techincal Education (A.I.C.T.E.) accredits the PGDBM courses. However, several colleges run PGDBM courses without accredition from A.I.C.T.E.

It doesn't make a difference whether you do an MBA or a PGDBM..the placements of PGDBM courses at good institutes is equally good to MBA courses. Keep in mind that before joining a PGDBM course, you should check whether the PGDBM course is accredited by AICTE. This accredition makes you eligible for all government jobs which require a master's degree.

Good Luck !

Hey,
Do not mistake yourself between a PG Diploma and a PG Degree.
PGDBA - PG Diploma in Business Administration - It is not a degree. It is only a diploma after degree, whose validity for higher education into research (M.Phil/Ph.d) is not accepted as an eligibility.
Whereas
MBA - Master in Business Management - is a Post Graduation Degree after Degree with an entrance test into it.This PG Degree makes you eligible for higher education or research into M.Phil in Management (provided u clear the entrance for M.Phil.) with minimum 55% scored in MBA.

Or can have recommendation of relevant Professors in the subject to take as a research scholar into Ph.D programs (after clearing all relevant formalities and eligibility).
