They have always been harsh. The truth is that their harshness is what makes it entertaining for the audience. Harsh but true. Otherwise, Simon would have been jobless ages ago. I think sometimes while it may be harsh to critique a contestant's appearance, the truth is that the music industry is quite shallow especially the pop industry. The thing is that if you are for example fat, you do have to be able to sing twice as good as most other singers to be taken seriously. From what I have seen from American Idol and Pop Idol (the Uk version), larger people can win this competitions but they don't seem to have staying power.
I am not an advocate of being cruel for the sake of being cruel. Most of the time, I usually agree with the judges decision to criticise the contestant, what I disagree with sometimes is the way they go about it.

I said it before and I'll say it again, there are several reasons why I am on the opposite end of this issue:
1. Its the reason why people watch the show in the first place, its what attracted most people to the show.
2. If these "singers" really are serious, the Idol judges are way less harsh than the music executives in the industry so, if they can't handle Simon, they don't belong in a business full of Simons.
3. The "singers" that come on the show have seen the show and know exactly what they are going to get. The judges do not ask them to come on the show they want to, and the reason why most people watch at this stage is to watch people make fools of themselves. Why doesn't anyone ask where are these people's loved ones convincing them that they do not need to be on the show? I mean if my daughter sang like any of the bad singers and she wanted to go on the show I would save her the humiliation and keep her away and if she went anyway, she would get what she deserved. Sorry, but the world is full of mean and nasty people, and if you walk into a situation uninformed or unprepared, this is what happens. Its basic honest way of the world. Not everyone is nice.

NO, they're not being too harsh...honesty and the truth can hurt sometimes.
Why should those judges sugarcoat the fact that some of those contestants have no business being there in the first place.
Do those contestants really believe they can sing or even carry a tune? If they want to display their idiocy in front of all America, then let them take the consequences they so richly deserve.
Most of the rejects we're seeing being dissed deserve whatever they get for wasting American Idol's and the Judges time...even if it means mocking and ridiculing them.
That's why it's called "reality" TV, where Political Correctness shouldn't apply.

Sometimes, yes I do believe that they are a little on the harsh side, but the reality is that it is a reality show and I know of a lot of people that tune in for the auditions and to see the really bad people and don't care about anything else. A lot of people love hearing other people get degraded and humiliated. So a lot of the judge's rants are probably for ratings, plus the judge's are just saying what most most people want to say but don't have enough guts to say.

I think America is just too wrapped up in people getting their feelings hurt and characters being damaged. If, you go to audition for American Idol, you have to expect the worst and hope for the best and learn to take the abuse. People forget that American Idol is a television show and the ratings are everything!

Yes. I think one goal of the show is to humiliate people who have disabilities. I realized this season that those people go through multiple auditions before they even get to the three celebrity judges. That means they've been pushed through not because they can sing, but because they are crazy, funny looking or just plain bizarre. I think the show exploits people with real disablities and I'm not a fan of it anymore.

Actually, I think this year that Simon has been a lot nicer then in the past. So far he hasn't made any fat jokes at all. This is what makes the show funny. If people are not willing to take the criticism then they should not go on the show, they know what it is all about.

No, I gained't omit any of them. i ask your self why Nicki did not sing at in touch by the completed season. all the different judges finished and confirmed their skills. Nicki talked a lot yet not in any respect were given up there on the extent and did something. With the tens of millions they were paying her, you ought to imagine she ought to have finished something. i imagine she grow to be afraid to educate that she extremely can not sing and ought to in hardship-free words rap and that is a making a music educate. i do not imagine someone who can in hardship-free words rap should be judging a making a music contest. The least she ought to have finished is do a rap music. city sang quite a number of cases. Jackson performed guitar for numerous songs. Mariah sang. Nicki did not something yet decide. ask your self why?

This show's been on for 6 years, and if the auditionists don't realize that they are putting themselves in a position to be judged...although maybe too harshly...then they are fools who have never watched the show. Come on now....!!
Keep up the good work Simon & Randy.
Paula?? Replace her.
