This is 100% serious. Dump ME and upgrade to XP.

ME is the worst Microsoft OS ever released. Except for maybe Bob.

I presume your not using Wi-Fi for access.
When your DSL was installed, also added a DSL modem. On the back of the modem there is a ethernet connection port (and /or there's a USB port) You must connect the Ethernet or USB port on your DSL modem to the corresponding ethernet or USB port on your Compaq (usually located on the back)using the appropriate cable. If you do not have a USB port or ethernet card on your PC (see link below for images) then you need ot buy one and have it installed in your PC.

Suggestion ME is pretty bad OS as it still has a tendency for "Blue Screen of Death" (BSD) --locks up for no reason.
Might I suggest you upgrade to at least Windows 2000 Pro?

By the way, unless you had opted to install this yourself, why didn't you just have the DSL installer just hook it up for you?

DSL connects thru a NIC [network interface card] make sure u hav 1 in ur PC and just conect it,
now u should be able to go online
if not, then install the program's that comes with the DSL providers CD
if not contact the provider xD

Connect the modem to your PC, it should automatically give you an IP address and you can get online. It would be better if you had a router because then hackers would have a harder time getting in.
