You would have to reinstall with a valid copy of XP Pro. You could probably do it without backing up your data, but I wouldn't recommend it.

With a Valid Copy of Windows XP Pro.. All you should have to do is a simple install. If done properly.. Windows wont touch your existing files like Documents and games. Just watch the screen and follow the prompts. At a high.. The worst that should happen is that you'll need to re-install SP2. But you can get that via the Microsoft Website for free.

Before you go any further, you should be asking yourself why your PC is slow. I don't think the PRO edition will increase it's speed. Has it always been slow or is it recent (suggests spyware or a virus) Get some 'free from the internet' software (try www.computeractive.co.uk/downloads) and 'sweep' your computer.

Get a valid SP pro and install it in a dual system, meaning you will have the advantage of using both.By doing it this way you don't have to backup your data, files and folders.
If you want to know where you can backup data for free then log on to www.btinternet.com,it gives you about one gig for free and two gigs for BT customers good luck
