I know this will sound crazy to some people but I believe they were falling angels. In the book of Enoch it talks about them as falling angels. Many people believe they were sons of Seth who married the daughters of Cain. I also think it is possible that the Greek Gods were falling angels. In the story of Atlantis the Greek God Poseidon I believe had sex with a human. The Island was destroyed by a flood like Noah's flood. It is possible that the story could be true. The falling angels were evil though. Many ancient cultures talk about Gods coming to Earth. i know it sounds a little crazy but it could be true.

When men began to increase in number on the earth and daughters were born to them, the sons of God saw that the daughters of men were beautiful, and they married any of them they chose. Then the LORD said, "My Spirit will not contend with [a] man forever, for he is mortal; his days will be a hundred and twenty years."

All men were the son of God. And yes the women were the daughters of God, but you can not say that the daughters of God and Sons of God wanted to marry each other because that itself would be a sin, so its worded differently to make you think differently...We are all Gods children

God in the old testament has made an alliance with Abraham that he would be His God and the descendence of Abraham would be his people. Let's keep in mind that this verse was written to the Jewish people and the writer was trying to link between the old Testament and Jesus. (the Genesis was the last book to be written)
