How about RTP--Raleigh/Durham/Chapel Hill? Lots to do, more and more job opportunities especially in science if you did research. Charlotte's more of a banking center, although its got some great suburbs. I'm biased towards Raleigh. Nice gated communities.

Don't know too much about Charlotte, though.

Raleigh-Durham-Cary-Chapel Hill is the fastest growing metropolitan in North Carolina with Research Triangle Park(RP) the area offers the most jobs plus unlike Charlotte and the Mountains is closer to the beautiful NC Crystal Coast and Outter Banks so I'd defiantly recommend Raleigh appose to Charlotte or any other city.

I grew up in Lincoln County which is quickly becoming a suburb of Charlotte. If you're looking for upscale, definitely try the Lake Norman/ Huntersville/Cornelius area. Nice shopping and restaurants and the like. Sorry I can't be more specific about places to visit. I only make it back home a couple of times a year and I try to stay far away from the cities when I do.

Concord has nice homes as well as Mooresville. While in Charlotte check out the huge mall called Concord Mills. It has a fun resturaunt called Jullian's that the whole family will enjoy!

Two places that are hot spots with decent taxes, good quality of living, schools, etc.. Cabarrus and Lincoln Countis. I'm partial to Cabarrus (Concord area) since I live there. Also York County to the South in SC is quite popular with the lower state taxes. Gaston, Union, and Iredell Counties are growing very quickly and have struggled to keep up. Charlotte and Mecklenberg County have much higher taxes.

Check out the Concord Mills area for shopping... also some good restaurants right there.

Good luck on your move!

Depends on how you define nice. For size, we've got Asheville in the mountains, Charlotte (the largest), Greensboro, Chapel Hill, Raleigh, Durham, Cary (the whole RTP area really), and Wilmington on the coast. Some feel like Ann Arbor....some like Detriot. All have their pros and cons....what are you looking for?

I moved to Raleigh, NC from NJ. i have also lived all around the U. S.. Raleigh is, via far, my prominent position to stay contained in the U. S.. Wake woodland has some ideas-blowing colleges and is next to Raleigh. Wake County customarily has solid colleges. Raleigh is amazingly possibility-free and there is continuously a lot to do for households.
