Coming from experience here, you should have no debts when you come into a marriage and should encourage your soon to be spouse to pay off their debt as well. Debt when you first get married puts an unneeded stress upon you both. You should try to have enough money saved to pay for your honeymoon if you are the guy since the woman's family traditionally pays for the wedding and reception. You should also have enough saved for a down payment on a home or at least enough for the first months rent and deposit on an apartment. You should also have three months pay saved up in an interest bearing account that you do not touch and save for later in case of an emergency.
Be sure to make a budget with your bride/groom to be.
Make sure you have health insurance that is the best you can get and be sure to open up a flex spending account so that you do not have to pay taxes on any medical supplies you may need to buy such as band-aids, condoms, or cold medicine etc...
If you want to start a marriage off right, financial security is the best way to build a strong long lasting relationship and a healthy family. A money market account is a nice way to save money and get a higher rate of interest. Be sure to start now saving at least 6% per year for your retirement too.
My husband and I have shared a wonderful relationship together because we ensured our financial security from the start, and our children will reap the benefits as they get older.
Hope this all helps!

the license, which depends on the state you live in. Mine is $65. then you need someone to perform the ceremony and if you use a minister/pastor, it's up to $200. you could go to the courthouse and get married by JOP, which will also cost you up to $200. so figure at least $265 minimum.

It costs about $30.00 for the license, but about $3,000,000,000,000,000,000,000,000,000,000,000,000 to get out of it. It's cheaper to stay married, but it's not always an easy thing to do.
