It was a major weapon against Bush. People would spout that as their #1 reason for choosing Kerry over him. Yet here we are in 07… with no draft. What happened? And where are the people stepping forward to say they were wrong.
Now as a “preemptive strike,” so that liberals can’t say “When do the Republicans step up and say they’re wrong? Well, it’s being done. Slowly but surely, it’s happening. Republicans are saying that maybe we went about this war wrong. That’s fine and dandy. So don’t answer this question with more questions or accusations. I want answers, no slander. Where are all the people who were so terrified of the draft?

When I say everyone, I mean everyone around me. At the time, I was in high school, and teachers were telling their students this. Then at a Kerry rally in my town, the people in the crowd starting chanting something about the draft to the protesters. Then at the bush rally, the protesters were yelling it at the people who were leaving his rally. I'm not sure how legit it was. That election was popular for the D's not having any clue what they had said the day before, and not having any information to back up their claims. So maybe it wasn't legit.

I remember that in 2000 they said if Bush won women would loose their right to have an abortion. In the South they said that if George Bush was elected that he would bring back slavery. They ran adds in Texas equating Bush to those guys who drug that black guy behind a pickup truck. Scare tactics are the only thing liberals have because if you think about an issue logically than liberalism fails miserably.

I do not remember people saying that Bush was going to restart the draft. I have read that some democrats had put a bill forward to reinstate the draft with the idea that it might get some people against the war if they thought that maybe their son might be sent over there.

However, I do not remember reading about doomsayers predicting that Bush would get the draft going again. You may have had some friends tell you this, but I never read this on any website or in any newspaper. I have never heard it on the radio or on television.

It seems like you are blowing something out of proportion.

Hmmm...I never said that. I said that I was voting for Kerry because Bush is a lying, evil, malicious, greedy, cheating troll, who manipulated the public to get us into a war to pay back his real constituents (Haliburton and his father).

What you have done, btw, is create a false dillemma--you try to trap people by getting them to defend a position they never took. You can't say "you were all wrong, you were against Bush for the wrong reasons" if that was never the reason we were against Bush in the first place. You produce some evidence (articles, polls, surveys, etc.) to prove that the anti-draft was a "major weapon against Bush," then we'll continue this as a civil conversation.

Obviously it did not work. How ever, there were many conservatives that have sons that were of draft able age at that time, that wanted the assurance from Bush that he would not ask for a draft, so that their soft little wimpy little boys would not have to get dirty and serve in the military. Bush made several statements that he did not endorse nor would he support the reinstatement of the draft. The only people that have advocated a return to the draft, has been Democrats in congress (house and senate), that believe in compulsory military service.

The Republican's have become weak. They're still the better alternative beween the 2, but they're weak. The only people that have pushed for a draft (though they say it would be Bush) have been Democrats. I think it was Chuck Schumar who has pushed two bills for a draft through. Even he voted against his own bill, but Democrats can now say "since the war began, there have been 2 votes for a draft," without ever mentioning that it was them who created the bils.

Actually Charley Rangle from NY proposed the legislation. It was soundly defeated after some Republicans demanded to have it put up for a vote.

In the early 90's our military strength was over 2 million+ and was decimated by the Clinton adminstration. He cut boatloads of folks and reduced troop levels to about 1.5 million troops. I know, 'cause I was there. Now Bush is getting blamed for not having enough troops......

confident, and so did Bush's distant cousin, bill Clinton. They belong to the family contributors heirloom that runs the Illuminati. Even Queen Elizabeth II has some bloodline family to George Bush and bill Clinton! they're linked one way or yet another. seek it up. you recognize what they are asserting, "finding is the path to know-how."

I don't recall a draft ever being brought up as an issue. I guess there was some discussion of the back door draft, but that was in place before the election. Sorry, we must have seen different things.

It's a bit useless to speculate about 'might-have-beens,' but Bush's actions would have been far different if his support base hadn't eroded so fast. He's been hampered by the facts about his trumped-up case for war in Iraq coming out. People don't like being lied to, so support for his pet war has waned swiftly. If it hadn't, who knows what he might have done?

To give you your answer, all of the people who were so terrified of the draft are all still here. All 300 million of us.

The draft bill unfortunately is not a dead issue. We've seen it surface twice in the last month.
