Perth is your best bet as it has superb beaches, fishing, people are friendly and helpful and the city of Perth itself is a top capital city with plenty of opportunities in the construction business. I'm from Melbourne but my choice is Perth as the best capital in Australia.

Perth - there's such a short fall in the number of places to live that people are literally camping on plots and living in modified containers. It's a real political problem here at the moment. Worse than the UK, if you can believe that! Western Australia (WA) is also short of people for civil engineering/construction in general. Mining is booming and so are the wages! Other areas include water pipelines and infrastructure - here's a link for jobs and to just to see how many jobs there are www.seek.com.au - I've lived in Perth it's a lovely place. My favourite region was the South-West corner, below Perth, all the way down to Albany. Avoid Kalgoorlie unless you're into drinking, prostitution and mining in a big way!

Perth is having a resources boom at the moment and growing really fast. Housing prices have quadrupled in the last five years. People are talking about new houses taking up to a year to build. Not sure what is happening int eh rest of the country.

Central Queensland. There is a mining boom and a skills shortage. Jobs are very highly paid and the conditions are quite good.

Lots of open spaces and friendly people.
