Okay, I'm not up on the whole music thing. But have a 14 y/o whose birthday is coming up. She has wanted this ipod thing forever so I have a couple of questions if you could please help me out with:

do I have to have an apple to use this? I have a pc (dell MS XP)

Is the 1GB good enuf for a 15 y/o (she's not a HUGE music fan) just an average young teen who likes "pop" & mainstream, nothing fancy

do I need a docking station (meaning will she want one of these things too?)

Can I upload any of my music songs from the computer into the ipod?

Apple came out with a new product: ipod shuffle... what is this? the article I read failed to explain.

thank you very much for your answers.

Tom answered the basic question. But I think you said she's NOT a huge music fan so the 1GB would fine

Now the nanos are $150 so if she's a little irresponsible a shuffle would be better. I don't think it is a good idea to buy kids expensive electronics that they will most likely lose.

The shuffles hold 240 songs, which should be enough for a 15 year old.

You don't need apple, your computer will work fine. 1 Gb is way to small for a huge music fan I'd recommend 4G or anything more. It comes with a docking station. Yes any songs you can upload. ipod shuffle is a stamp-sized ipod with no screen and can only hold about 214 dongs (1GB). Ipods and itunes are very easy to use. THe ipod nano can only hold music and photos, while the ipod video can hold videos(movies), music, photos, and games.

1. You don't need an Apple computer
2. if you are spending about $200 in a ipod... spend a bit more and get the 30 GB one... your kid will never be bored of that
3. it comes with a cable that you plug into the computer... docking is an accesory
4. Ipod shuffle it's just only a little ipod with no screen and little memory

Okay -
Yes! The iPod is a PERFECT gift to get for her! You do not need an Apple computer to use the iPod. All you need is iTunes (free download at: www.itunes.com ) but there is a CD that comes with the iPod and that will help you download it. I am not sure if 1GB is good for her, so let me tell you the capacity of each and price.

Nanos - (colors - Red, green, blue, pink, silver, black)
2GB *500 Songs - $150
4GB *1,000 Songs - $200
8GB *2,000 Songs - $250

Videos - (colors - black, white) **They hold movies, tv shows, music, music videos, and games!
30GB *7,500 Songs - $250
80GB *20,000 Songs - $350

Shuffles - (colors - pink, orange, green, blue, silver)
1 GB - *240 Songs - $80

I would reccomend a 2GB Nano for your daughter but you can take a look if you would like!

Hope this helps!

wow, u dunno anything basically....

u dont need an apple to use ipod, they work with windows;u will need a software called itunes and a usb cable to plug in your computer, the usb comes with the computer andtheitunes u can get on apple.com

1GB should hold approximately 250 song more or less, dunno if that'd be enough for her, depends, u can always delete songs that u dont listen to.

no,u dont need one, im not sure but it just plays music and can recharge ur battery too(m not sure about the docking station)

yes, thats wat the ipod is for, can use the usb cable, plug it in and open itunes, then drag ur songs into the usb folder.

the shuffle is an mp3 player like anyother but it doesnt have a screen, so u'd have to go through ur songs by listening to them.

OK, you buy her an iPod and she is going to look like a world class douche bag wearing that crap in her ears all the time. No one is impressed.
