It was some type of a game where you had cards of suspects in a mystery, and one of the suspects was named beatnik. The card showed a picture of a beatnik with a goatee, maybe a beret. You had to find out who did it, and maybe you put the cards in some sort of a holder/reader, and the light would go off if you were right. I suspect the game was around in the 1970's maybe 80's.

Lie Detector by Mattel. Pressman rereleased it in the nineties.

Looks like Lie Detector. My dad didn't want us learning to lie (!) so would not let us play it. Maybe it was Spy Detector? It was early 1960s meaning circa 1963, and I recalled a female beatnik, along with the male beatnik. Later Manhunt was in 1973, I know because I demanded it for my b-day, and that was what I got because Lie Detector was not for sale then

Sounds a lot like Clue. But clue doesn't have a beatnik. Might be some clone.
