If someone owns 100 contracts of a certain option and decides to exercise 10 of those contracts, but the contracts are written by a few different people, (40 contracts are written by person A, person B has written 50, and person C has written 10, for example), then how is it decided who's contracts will be assigned?

Thanks

Your firm places the excercise with the OCC (Options Clearing Corporation) - they will chose by random selection who will be on the other end

it doesn't matter who has written them, your broker handles your part of it
