Daniel M: Losing, were we? We had certainly been depleted but I wouldn't say we were losing, especially as Hitler opted to invade Russia and was fighting a war on two fronts. Also, with the exception of Pearl Harbor (sic), did your towns, cities, harbours and so forth take a battering like ours? I think not. You just came poncing in to clean up the mess. And lest we forget, we've only just finished paying our financial debt to you, more than sixty years on. So don't go on like America was our great saviour, and we should forever be indebted to you. We Brits appreciate the help but you did not win the war for us. We suffered enough casualties of our own, thank you.
Drampor: The one war you fought without the British as your ally was Vietnam and we all know what happened there, don't we? Your Hollywood film directors may try to rewrite history but the fact remains you got your a*ses kicked.

Nobody 'won' the war!. It was an alliance born out need, and the ALLIES made the end happen. It just so happened, at a critical time, the Japanese stupidly bombed Pearl Harbour. America (who had already been supplying us with arms etc.) HAD to enter the war. Why should they have done so before!?. They chose to support the Brits, Canadians, Russians Etc. because 'their enemies enemy is their friend' . Our wonderful friendship with Americans just took a new turn and, no matter what ANYBODY says, if the Americans had not entered the war at that moment, there was every likelihood of us of capitulating. We will never know. I'm just grateful that they did and Britain remains Britain.......or DID!!

'Heiddimug' or whatever you name is. You're too young to make comments like you did. The Americans are only detested by Muslims....and you.

The Americans "helped" us (The British) win only because the Japenese bombed Pearl Harbour. Untill then they didnt give a rats a**. And now because they think they are god's gift to humanity they are taking on the entire Islamic world because of a few fanatics.

It's time America faced up to some home truths; your fighting a loosing battle, for every one terrorist you kill (or bring to justice as you like to call it) you kill thousands of inocent people, and if that's not bad enough you dont even know how to use your own gun without killing British or Canadians in the process.

You may have a big and expensive army but for god's sake learn how to use the damn thing! Or mabye you should leave the politics to the civilized world.

Before I start getting abuse let me say that this little rant is directed at the bimbos in the American militry who don't know how to fight a war. I have no problem with the American people in general.

What war did we supposedly win? Are you talking about Iraq? lol...we won a war that was with ourselves. Don't get me wrong, I support our troops because they had no choice but to go and they risked their lives everyday, but it was our government that started this war. I don't think that it was going on before we went. Actually, I know it wasn't. I would much rather you say the American government and not its people. We really have no real say of what goes on. We just pretty much watch, much like the rest of the world does. Funny and sad, isn't it, for a country that claims to hold democracy in her very hands and wants to spread it?

Which war, WWII?

If so, the US did win the Asian theatre--there is no argument there. US naval craft sunk over 90% of the Japanese navy and merchant marine.

In Europe, the best summary I have heard was that it was Russian blood, British tenacity, and American money that won there. Britain and Russia probably could have won Europe without American help, but it would have taken much longer.

Aren't you glad we came in and helped out? Now you speak English instead of German....

America claims as winner because simply they surrendered after OUR brutal beating of there forces...where they were able to withstand beatings from our allies for years before we came. Tiny setbacks to there final plan, where we came in and handed there *** to them on a plate. They were about to take over the world, our army changed all that.

I personally think it was an amazing strategy. The allied forces in Europe held them back and gave them a run for there money. Unfortunately it wasn't enough. America came in perfect timing. If we wouldn't have come 12th hr, we would have been as tired as you all. German men and women were tired by the time we came. You all had done well in beating them and there morale down. And with a team effort- we all kicked the $hit out of those fools.

And as for a real response, We all won.

Don't you think?

In both WW1&2 our American cousins came in after three years of warfare had passed.

This time we cannot blame the Government but the people!
As USA was founded by people who had enough of Europe's problems, this was understandable

Wilson had to be dragged screaming into WW1 and FDR wanted to come in sooner, but he knew the opposition to it.
But he did help with supply of materials on lease/loan
Only after USA sufferred directly did they come in

America's financial strength resulted from Europe bankrupting themselves with two world wars within 50 years

WW1 was avoidable but WW2 was not and was really WW1 part 2-the sequel

I think the 12th hour is a bit of an exageration.

I think it may be because they sure as hell didn't lose it?

Does this pointless argument have to get aired quite so often on here? I can't see how it can ever be resolved.

Yeah there's that and the F'ing atom bombs they dropped on Japan. I think they ended the war.

Oh and they lent us billions of dollars to rebuild Europe after the war at 2% interest. Britain only finished paying it back last year.

So stop all this crap - its not a game of football you know.

The Allies won the war. That includes the US, Britain, etc. There's no split there.

What we see as healthy pride comes across as arrogance due to cultural differences. That's all THAT is.
