ok so im considering upgrading my computer with all the latest hardware.i already got a graphics card for my computer, and I want to buy the intel core 2 duo processor, 2gb of ram, and maybe a 250 gb hardrive.if i buy the intel core 2 duo processor will i be able to just use it in ANY computer or is it only for newer ones. my computer is about 4-5 years old and it is a dell dimension 2400. with 256 mb of ram and a 40 gb hardrive. will all of this make my internet go faster? in terms of kb/s. will it be as fast as todays computers?

Wow you have been so mislead.. You can not just use any motherboard for any processor. the core 2 processors use a LGA775 socket and you are probably using a socket 475 and with a new mobo you will need new ram and a new HD interface (sata over IDE) and you will need a new OS. And after all that your internet will be the same speed b/c it is determined by your ISP.

You need to to have the same socket cpu as the computer motherboard . Socket 939, socket 775 and socket 754 are the most common.
