I have a 2002 VW Jetta (turbo).. and today it started to lose power and vibrating in second gear going up a steep hill. The check engine light also flashed a few times. After the steep hill it was ok (I didn't accelerate hard anymore to make sure I don't damage anything). Any idea what this could be?

Also, I noticed after going into 1st or 2nd gear it felt a bit jerky.

Thanks

i own a repair shop, and it sounds more like a clutch needs adjusted on it than anything else, that will make it jerk and slip going up hills ,id take it to a good mechanic and have him check it to see if it does need adjusting,if you don't have it done you,ll burn the clutch right out of it,,and then you,ll be out a few hundred to get a new one good luck with it,i hope this help,s.

Sound like an electrical fault probably spark plugs or your clutch is slipping, go have it scanned, won't cost too much and you will know for sure.
good luck

Sounds to me like it is in need of a tune-up. It does NOT sound like a transmission problem.
