There is no solution blah blah blah blah.....
I've got a solution - bring back capital punishment!! What rights do paedophiles, rapists, murders etc, have to be kept in 'luxury' in the prisons with T.V's, computers, etc
They obviously don't care about anybody so why should we have to pay to keep them in jail? Then those who commit lesser crimes will be put in jail, so HOPEFULLY this country will be safer again. Who agrees??

I totally agree with you, but sadly this will NEVER happen in the uk as it would be an infringemnt of their 'Human Rights' innit. Thanks to Blair, his charity robbing b*tch and his entire cabinet, past and present, this totally inept, spineless, gutless, incompetent and corrupt government thinks it's far better and more important to put the 'Human Rights' of these scumbags first rather than the 'Human Rights' of those of us who are law abiding and tax paying citizens of what was once this Great Country!!!

I think that it is wrong how the prison accommodation can seem 'luxuroius' as you put it (although I'm pretty certain I'd never ever want to live in one no matter how dire things were) and that the tax payer is forking out for all these criminals. I DON'T think that the answer is capital punishment / public hanging / electric chair / any other barbaic act.
I think that criminals in prisons should work for a living. Get industries to send their manual work to prisons, get simple but time consuming tasks done by the inmates and their pay will be their accommodation! The money gained from this would pay for the upkeep of the prison and the prisons wouldn't cost the tax payer. Plus, criminals might learn something about work ethic etc and actually want to change after their experience.

I don't agree with capital punishment but do agree our prisoners have it fairly cushy. There is a state in America where the Mayor has built a prison of tents surrounded with barbed wire ,dogs and armed men . It keeps costs right down and the prisoners work in chain gangs on the roads. We could do the same thing here. I bet there would be a very low reoffending rate.

Don't agree or disagree with the Capital Punishment thing, but I feel prison sentences are too lenient for some of the crimes committed, also prison life too easy, we don't actually punish people anymore just restrain them within a compound. They still have access to human rights, unlike some of their victims, access to luxuries like colour TV and can continue to use drugs where they should have to do (supervised) cold turkey and get off drugs, less drug users then less crime, a fact.

How about this: take the prisoners that society will never allow back, such as pedophiles, rapists, and murderers, and make them work at very difficult jobs. Let them know they have no possibility of parole.
In each prison cell, there could be a straw connected to a small vial, containing enough poison to kill an adult. When the prisoner despairs of his condition, he can freely take his own life, and society no longer has to spend $50,000 or more a year to keep him incarcerated.
Then, he's God's problem.

i have been of your view in the past but when i look at the miscarriages over the years e.g. the bridgewater 4,birmingham 6,guildford 4 ,colin stag, judith ward, roy burrnet, carol hanson.these are just a few that roll of the tongue and there a loads more that i havent mentioned.
all the named above would all be dead now,but thankfully the were able to remain alive and prove thier innocence.
i agree that the majority of condemned would be genuinely guilty and deserve what saddam got but its not right if innocents get executed as well.this will undoubtably happen

Che, whilst that would be one answer, I'd like to point out that the crime rates in the US are no lower because they have Capital Punishment.
It's no deterrent unfortunately.
I agree that criminals should pay for their crimes. How about a rock demolishing exercise on some random uninhabited Pacific Island?

Anyone who thinks that prison life is luxurious should take a look at some of the recent tv programs about supermax prisons, or, even better, pay a visit to one of them.

In my opinion, Captical Punishment is wrong. How can killing be forbidden if the state legalises it under certain circumstances (such as the death penalty). The crime rate will not sink if the death penalty is re-introduced (the crime rate isn't lower in the US for instance) and if Britain were to re-introduce Captial Punishment it would have to leave the EU. When talking about the death penalty, we have to talk about the reason for imprisonment/punishing in general. Are criminals punished just to satisfy the public's anger? No, punishment is needed to socialise them. If you kill them, how can they ever regret what they did and become better persons? They can't.
I think we can be quite pround of the UK BECAUSE the death penalty has been abolished. It

Ive got an easy way to sort the problem out.... Half the size of every prison cell in the UK as they dont need a room even bigger than what i have got and straight away you have doubled the amount of cells in the UK.
