There are 12 black history months because black history occurred during every month, every day, every year (however major or minute it may be). Having said that, there's 12 white history months, chinese history months, indian history months, and 12 history months for all the other people of the world!

Do you realize what you've done? You'll be blackballed, slandered, and hated. You may even get the terrible "thumbs down" because you said something negative about blacks. Even though it wasn't negative, everyone will say it was.
Anyways, February is black history month. That's it. But then they have their holidays, and their TV networks, and all this other junk, so it seems like it's often. I thought about this yesterday actually.
As for the white history month. It won't happen. Supposedly "Every other month of the year" is white history month, and february is the "only month of the year when blacks truly get the credit they deserve."
*cough cough*
I better stop. I might get too many thumbs down.

Well, Congress was generous enough to designate the shortest, coldest month of the year to recognize African American History. Why? An attempt to make amends for the fact that most of the history recognized in this country is White history - no need for a month...

The fact that people don't realize there are a series of ethnic/nationality months, sort of answers the question of why groups want them and we have them

Black History Month is only supposed to last for 1 month but, it usually lasts about 2 months, I think there should be a history month for many cultures-White,Chinese,European History etc. Not fair that they are the only ones who get one. Other cultures have invented things and have done good things for the world but, no one else seems to be recognized for it, except for the Blacks.
