My homeroom teacher told me to think of something for the second semester. Like some interesting classes, or activities for Valentine’s Day, Mother’s Day a.s.o. Anything at all.
I can’t tell her to think about it herself, being her job and all; I wouldn’t want to be rude. I have to prepare a file for this Thursday.

For instance, last year for Valentine’s Day we had a lesson about Shakespeare and we recited his sonnets… which was quite boooring.

I agree...that is her job! I don't think I ever asked my students to do something like this!!

Anyway, I am sure that there are some nursing homes in the area...you can have everyone in the class write letters or cards or just color a bunch of pictures. There are several sites that offer free coloring pages and I can tell you from experience, the residents truely appreciate visitors and cards and drawings!! This would work for mother's day as well.

I know you are in High School, but my students loved it whenever i brought the crayons and said start coloring. It was a break from the standard work, plus, it was community service! If you could get a group to go after school one day to deliver them, the cheer you bring to the residents makes you feel good about yourself!

I'm all for having anti-Valentine's celebrations. Why not have everyone find some great break-up poems (some serious, some funny) or short stories or song lyrics. You could have a very serious podium and then someone goes up there and starts reciting some Lily Allen lyrics or something. That could be fun.

For mother's day, maybe you guys could write essays describing what your life would be like if (insert famous person's name here) was your mom. You could all come up with one name and put them in a hat and everyone would have to pick one. (Think Oprah, Courtney Love, Mother Theresa, Hillary Clinton, Beyonce, just whoever, the more out there, the better.)

Just a couple of ideas...

How about a secret valentine. You could work in conjunction with the student council and sell valentine day cookies. these cookies would be in the shape of a heart and people would buy them to have them delivered to the homerooms in your school and then given to a person of their choice. The name of the sender could be left anonymous or be given.

My daughter did this at her school and it was a big success. It made a lot of money and as she said it was cool to see the guys blush in homeroom when they received their valentine surprise.

give the teacher ideas that are interesting to you and the class as a whole. step outside of your box and into the shoes of your teacher so you might understand hhow the teacher feels about choosing topics. be creative. jot a list of all of the cool things that interest you. then take notice of what other people in your class like and prepare a list and hand it in to your teacher.
