A great may of us are aware of this insidious current that is sweeping our country; is it too late to open the mental eyes of our countrymen to the dangers of believing all the asinine stufff that passes for enlightenment these days?

It has to be confronted on multiple fronts: education, business, sports, culture.
On the education front.
Develop schools that cater to the ones who will strive for excellence at all levels. Make the curriculum difficult and exclusionary to those that can not perform. Make entry based on performance and not how much money daddy has. Make attending those schools pay-off with high paying jobs. This is what college used to be until everyone thought they had a right to go to college. School vouchers has the potential to create this, however there are some pitfalls to be wary of in regards to school vouchers.

I agree with Tom W. Yes, the media(movies, tv, and magazines) have made it stylish and cool to be brainless. People feel they no longer need to think. Schools no longer teach anything necessary, let alone interesting, and no one has the curiosity to find anything out about the world around them. As a result, ignorance is rampant. Being smart is now a detriment, and people fall into a numbed state of apathy.

The media makes being stupid glamorous and stylish. Campuses used to be the center of culture and thought and now are football factories and places where video games rule. There is one great truism in the dumbing down of America and that is that if you want to be successful you can be and you will have less competition for wealth, and you will have an unlimited number of semi skilled and unskilled workers to use in your business.

It is simple, oh so simple, keep the populous dumb to continue to get rich. Go check some of the dumb laws that keep Americans from understanding what is going on. Pay particular attention to the FDA and how they have their greedy little hands in everything.
