What exactly did they hope to accomplish defacing the capitol steps anyway? Did they assume if they spray painted grafity all over the capitol steps we'd simply pull our troops out?

I really am not surprised by this. Dismayed, disappointed, and nearly distraught, yes, but not surprised.
MOST of the war protesters are peaceful people, and their intentions are well-meaning. It's a shame that some people just have to tarnish this. I guess some of those people really are a mirror image of those who spat on our troops when they returned home from Vietnam.
Anyway, that's a little off the subject. In answer to your initial question, the reason it's so under-reported is that most of the news anchors and reporters are also against the war, and will do ANYTHING to support the protesters. Their silence signals acquiescence, not that that's surprising in the least.
What did they hope to accomplish? The same thing that those who dishonored our brave soldiers during the Vietnam War hoped: To embarrass our leaders, and force them to do their will, even though the public is largely ignorant. I'm not saying that last part to be rude; I include myself in that statement. We're ALL ignorant...though I guess some more than others.
Even if I was completely against the war (not completely "for" it either) I still wouldn't join those people. It's just too reminiscent of the sixties, and I would be dishonoring my father's memory (Vietnam vet), as well as the bravery of my own husband (US Army for over five years now) if I did so.
I digress yet again. But I hope my point came across.
I guess our country wanted another hippie generation so bad that they would start one without compunction. Here we go again...

I hate to sound glib, but at least it hasn't come to the point of blowing up the capital steps yet (and I hope it never does).

I don't agree with defacing our beautiful buildings either. However, the less that our elected representatives actually represent "We the People", the more we going to see such anger among "We the People".

My guess it was to try and make a point to people that are DEAF to all views except their own. Beside it was probably washable.
That should be the least of our worries. Law abiding citizens with a cause that spray paint a message.

Shows how disrespectful these liberals can be. Isn't that what gangbangers do? These people hve no patriotism and should be deported to Iraq so they can protest there. Then we'll see how long they keep their heads attached to their bodies.

That just shows how hypocritical liberals are, they claim they want peace but don't always practice it.

The protestors in America are ignored, by the media. They will be ignored until there is violence........ Protestors need to be heard in the media, it is part of having a voice. I am uncertain why the media ignores them so avidly.... besides govt and cons pressure...
