That's a foolish thing to say. Nobody marries for what their kids will look like. They are attracted to who they're attracted to, just as you are.

I read in cosmo ( I think) several years ago that attraction does sometimes come down to what your hormones tell you will be best for your kids.
A light woman wants a dark man because she senses genetically that her children will not be as prone to sunburn. A man with glasses wants a woman with 20/20 vision because on some base level his body tells him his offspring have a better chance of health and therefore survival.
Just because we live in a "civilized" society doesn't mean that all of our animal insticts have disappeared. How else do you explain all the 7ft basketball player types with the brainy 5ft nothing girls?
p.s. Although some of the other answers seemed to insinuate that this idea was racist or naive, it's perfectly natural, i would even say open minded, to wonder about things like that, and wondering about something is not the same thing as judging people.

I think probably people marry outside their race because they fall in love with the other person. Sometimes people do seem to have preferences for another race, but I don't think that has much to do with what the kids will look like, but more with what kind of look that person is attracted to. Kids are probably secondary to that.

So are you asking if in general people marry based on what their future children might look like? On the one hand I don't think people think along those lines, on the other hand from an evolutionary standpoint a gene that says "mate with someone who will provide you with attractive offspring who in turn will higher mating success because of their looks" WILL tend to flourish in the gene pool.

i think there is discrimination like this.
it is very prominent in haiti that men choose lighter-skinned
women because lighter-skinned people have advantages
in haiti. there may be some degree of this even in the US.
since lighter skinned people have traditionally been defined
as preferable (since slave times) and preferred. and if this
is true, it certainly means that lighter skinned people still get
a better shake from this world, ie racism is alive and well.

If a mixed couple actually make it to marriage, then it's the real deal, love, not a plan to make pretty babies. Most mixed couples hook up out of rebellion or lack of parental guidance, or whatever and the girl is left, pregnant, while the boy goes on to spread his seed elsewhere. Most interracial children I see were born out of wed-lock and the hair, well, it's usually hard to condition and control.

Personally if I married outside my race it would be because that's who I happened to love; marriage isn't all about eugenics.

If they do, they are very shallow people. You should marry only for love, not for what your children may or may not look like.
