As a die hard Yankees fan I have some decent knowledge about the AL east. I happen to agree with you, although Baltimore ALWAYS finishes worse than they should have. It will be a tight race though.
I also see the Jays taking over as a solid #2 - possible #1

This is my picks so far. Only ST so lots can change.
Yankees
Jays
O's
Redsox
Rays.
I am picking the Yanks because they have overwhelming talent. Though the Jays might surprise lots of people this year. Halliday is a threat for the Cy Young every year. Burnett is due for a good year. Chancin is the key though. If the Chancin of 05 shows up the Jays are in good shape. If the Chancin of 06 shows up the Jays are hurting. The bottom two spots in the rotation are really iffy for the Jays though. The OF is good and probably going to get even better. Reed Johnson plays his heart out, Rios looks like a young star ready to have a break out year and Wells has finally got back to being the Wells of old. The IF is weak. Overbay is solid. Glaus is empty power that KOs way way way too often. Clayton a defensive liability who cannot even hit any more. Hill show's promise. I suspect Frank Thomas's resurance is done so somebody else will be DHing by the end of the year. The Jays have good OF prospects so that's not a problem.
The O's have a couple good pitching prospects who are due to show the O's a return on their investments in them. They have a solid team. Good enough to pass the Redsox this year. Perhaps even make a run at the division early in the year only to fade late in the year.
The Redsox have demolished their team spirit. They are going into the year with a rotation that is primed to implode. Not a single one of their starters is not a huge if and few of them have big upsides to go with all that risk. No closer yet. JD Drew is going to wing up tied to a foul pole by the end of the year. Varitech won't put up with his me me me attitude for very long. Drew will be healthy because if he isn't he doesn't make all that money and it's the money that Drew is all about. All he cares about are $s. The rest of the team is too old as such the sox will be plagued with injuries all year long. Another bad move and I'll pick the Rays above the Sox this year.
The Rays have a surprisingly good young team but inexperience will make a roller coaster season out of 07. Hot one day, cold the next two. If the Rays keep developing this same bunch and plug a couple holes they can be serious contenders by 09. Expect the Rays to make a noticable improvement this year. Maybe enough to catch the Sox but I'm betting Theo will make moves mid year to get the Sox back close to .500. If they stay with the current team the Sox will be a disaster this year.

I'm a loyal O's fan, (I have been since I was 5), but sadly, they look like they're going to be battling Tampa to stay out of the basement. To be over the Red Sox or Yank's would be cool(and I hope that they prove me wrong!), but I think the Jays may be the sleeper team in MLB this year.

The Yankees will beat the Orioles in the World Series! Red Sox will get as close as the Wild Card...

Yes, Baltimore's season will finish in 07 before the Red Sox season does - that must be what you mean.

I wish I could share your beliefs. Unfortunately, the Bosox have been a force in recent years and the O's haven't. Anything can happen but I think it'll be the Yankees and Boston like always slugging it out until the end of September.

I can't see the Sox finishing 4th in that division...they're too proud of an organization to let that happen, and even if it were a remote possibility, I could see them doing something insane/stupid like trading their farm system to enable a "win now at all cost system" to vault them out of 3rd or 4th place.

unfortunately no. they are in a little rebuilding process. they just traded away javy lopez last year and they are going for a younger team. they have tejada, but the red sox will be too strong. they have a better pitching staff and they may pick up todd helton. maybe if they pick up some good prospects we will see baltimore in the playoffs in three or four years.
