Yes, a lot of vegetables are safe, but many should be avoided. A lot of water-based vegetables, such as lettuce, contain too much water and make your hamster's stool runny. This can also happen if you switch your hamster's diet too rapidly, or give it too much of a new food at once. Carrots are generally safe, but timothy hay or alfalfa is a better option, and is safe enough to feed in a standing dish.

As for the food, try and stay away from mixed seed and pellet diets. What often happens with these foods, is the hamster picks and chooses which pieces he wants to eat (the sunflower seeds and buts, mostly, because they're the most unhealthy :P )and leaves the healthy part behind. So, in all actuality, you're feedinf your hamster a diet that's way too high in protein, and can cause a chubby hammy. Hagen makes a great hamster food, their Extrusion line are solid, hard blocks that are nutritious and great for grinding down the teeth of hamsters, which as you kow keep growing.

Whichevr foods or treats you decide to go with, make sure you do your research and give your little friend the best you can.

hamster really like soya bean, they also love fruit especially bananas. Monkey nuts are good to becase they have to work to get the nut out of its shell. Salad vegetables are best for hamsters like lettuce n carrot. Avoid onion and potato. Never leave fresh fruit n veg in the cage for over a day as it may start to rot. Remember that some veg such as iceberg lettuce and celery has no nutritional value. it takes more calories to digest so only feed small amounts as a treat

Vegetables are fine. My hamster likes peas, sweetcorn, lettuce, broccoli and cauliflower. He also loves cheese, so I give him a very small piece from time to time. Plain biscuits always go down well and small pieces of fresh fruit such as bananas and apples. Az is also keen on bread - especially brown or seeded bread - and croissants! Oh, and bits of scotch pancakes!

In the wild, hamsters eat insects as well - but if, like me, you don't like the thought of feeding live insects try bits of meat and white fish if you're having it yourself.

The only thing to remember is that food designed for humans can contain lots of additives and salt, therefore only feed small amounts as an occasional treat. Large amounts can upset your hamster's digestive system.

Hamsters love love love raw veggies cut real small such as carrots, apples, lettuce, celery. Some are more finicky than others and are reluctant to try new things, so add it a little at a time into his/her food. Good Luck!

hamsters are natural scavangers and will eat almost anything. DONT feed them anything acidy (e.g onions) or anything spicy as this tend to upset them. just remember feed in tiny amounts and remove any leftovers the next day. my hamster loves pizza and loves yoghurt as special treats!! I stick to mainly vegatables (raw and cooked) and cooked pasta. its good for them

whole nuts in the shell to gnaw. Small bits of raw veggies. A bit of tinned cat food once a week, seeds, cooked pasta, apple, carrot, a grape, raisins. Almost anything really. Nothing salty or greasy. No chocolate or avocado.

Yes, you can give him fresh crunchy veggies like bits of carrot or cabbage. Mine used to love peices of apple too. If you do give fresh treats though, remember that you may have to clean out the cage a bit more often, cos if he stores bits of fruit and veg they'll rot and get smelly.

Ours loves lettuce, slices of apple, raisins and watermelon. The only reason I can see for not feeding your hamster too much of this stuff is they store half of it and it ends up fouling the nest!
