80% of humanity, the religious folks, don't need to ask the meaning of life, the church tells them....the supernatural explanation. But the rest of us can't swallow religious dogma, because there's no evidence. Nobody can prove that there life after death, that people are tortured or rewarded after life or that there's invisible spirits running around.
I've come to two conclusions recently:
1. Life has no meaning
2. Life has a million meanings.
First, there's a certainty that death and annihilation awaits not only you, but the Earth in general. It's an astonomical certainty that our sun will supernova and leave the earth a burnt crisp, not to mention all the other extinction level events around the corner.
Second, the million things that give us meaning are the pleasurable experiences we can conjure up during the short period we are here on the earth, in the form of the relationships we have with our kids and other people, and the 'housekeeping' types of purposes. What i mean by that are the curing disease, ending hunger, improving literacy, reducing crime, preventing war, helping other kinds of things.
So the bottom line is, we only have a temporary meaning to life, to reduce pain and increase pleasure, other than that everything is lost to oblivion.
To be or not to be? "To be" is temporary and "not to be" is inevitable.....

This question is often asked here and elicits much the same set of answers every time. It must be an important question for people, else why do so many ask it out loud. I have asked it many times in my life and as I look back on my life I find it was asked when I had doubts as to whether I mattered to anybody.
Every person in every society asks this question from the time they are children till they die. Religions are invented to answer the question for their converts and atheists, especially atheists, still seek meaning from others with whom they interact. They find meaning too. They are sometimes more succesful in finding a neaning for life than people of religious persuasion.
What do they find? They have no god to give them meaning for existence; where do they get their meaning? They like those churched people who bind together in congregations are bound together by the give and take in human relations of love. This binding force like the force of electromagnetic energy that binds atoms together is mediated by an exchange of something. In atoms by the exchange of photons. In humans by the exchange of words of love.
I think we all need reassurance throughout life that we have a valid reason to exist and whether we get that from a god or from one another it is vital to our continued good mental health that we do get it. So, tell some one today that you love them and seek someones approval of you. It is why we are here.
PEACE AND LOVE!

To reproduce.
To TRY to achieve things you want.
To accept challenges that life throw at you.
To be resilient.
To compete.
To respect.
To be respected.
& the list goes on...
But most importantly, to be thankful that you're alive.

the meaning of life is PIZZA, because you can flavor it any way you want to and put whatever into it you want.
But it all falls apart without a lot of dough, $$ get it?
