It does help I think. And remember too that you just had your baby 6 weeks ago. Wait another 3 months and you will notice a big difference in the way your stretch marks look. Mine looked awful and now 8 months later they are really starting to lighten up and be less noticeable.

You have to think of them as scars, really, and lotion doesn't do much of anything for scars. It would really be just a waste of money. The Palmer's Cocoa Butter is made for use from the beginning of pregnancy, before you start to strech and develop the marks. And even then it only helps a tiny bit, no more than any other lotion. It helps to keep your skin extra moist, therefore more easily able to strech. But at a certain point, genetics just takes over and they either develop or they don't.

At six weeks postpartum, I'd be willing to be that it'll be a long while before you'll be ready to wear anything that will reveal that part of your body and by then they will have faded quite a bit, all on their own.

I did use the Palmer's cocoa butter, after I received it as a baby shower gift. For a while, I thought that it was helping, but as soon as I his 8 months, I got my first strech mark, right by a scar that I had from a previous surgury. Then in the next 2 months, I got a lot more. The lotion did nothing, and I really think that if I hadn't had those old surgury scars, I wouldn't have gotten any, like my mom.

And also? The cocoa butter lotion doesn't smell all that great and it's kinda thick. Doesn't come off your hands that great.

Stretch marks can happen to anyone, regardless of age, due to too much exercise, rapid weight change or pregnancy. "There are two different kinds of marks, red and white," says cosmetic dermatologist Bruce Katz, director of Juva Skin and Laser Center.
For red-looking stretch marks, Retin-A cream (prescribed by a dermatologist) may give some subtle improvement in reducing the redness by causing blood vessels to constrict. Once the redness fades, the red stretch marks become white stretch marks. Unfortunately, no topical lotion will eliminate the marks completely.

For permanent removal, Dr. Katz recommends a dual laser treatment performed at a dermatologist's office. The combination of lasers stimulates new collagen and elastic fiber growth to fill in where the marks are. After 3 to 5 treatments, with mild bruising and swelling, the marks should significantly improve, if not disappear completely.

The downside: Each treatment costs about $395.

palmers is made of mostly wax. it feels smooth on your skin but has very little moisturizing properties. you're better off using a 100% natural shea butter. it's fairly inexpensive. also, if you buy vitamin e pills and poke it with a pin, you can apply the pure vitamin e oil from the pill directly on your skin. this oil is much more concentrated than any lotion or cream on the market.

okay its most effective when you start to use it like BEFORE you start to grow and get stretch marks. my sister did and she has none. and she's a very small girl too. Now you can use it but it will just make them fade alittle.
