Why isn't offense taken when Bill Maher on HBO's "Real Time" uses a homophobic slur jokingly?
I feel as if he speaks condescendingly toward and about gaypeople, almost contempteously. Maybe he's trying to prove how much of a STRAIGHT-up goon that he is. I can't believe "The Advocate" named him "Person of the Year". It's unphathomable! They might as well had deemed Mel Gibson the saint and good samaritan throughout the whole millenium.

Why do gaypeople get selectively offended? They do nothing when Donald Trump, Imus, and the like mentions something that will only seem to discredit the homosexual community. However, they get all bent out of shape when Isaiah Washingtoon mentions the F word. I mean, what's up with that? It makes me almost ashamed to stick for gaypeople, despite my being a lesbianwoman, as if gaypeople deserve everything bad that goons throw their way.

On another note:
I think Bill Maher is secretly a homophobe, but isn't everybody? Bill Maher should stop hiding behind his false support for same-sex marriage and bring out his "God Hates Fags" sign while wearing his Ku Klux Klan ensemble with the white hood over his head. The white hood would be so beneficial to us in so many ways, including covering up Bill Maher's face that he has cursed us with for so many years. No wonder he's not married. No woman could even consider having sex with him! He has turned me into a sextuple lesbianwoman! He is just that ugly, both internally and physically!

However, sometimes, I feel as if a lot of gaypeople bring it (the ridicule and the attacks) upon themselves, like they were asking for it as a reminder to let themselves know that they are still gay, and this is what being gay means to those particular gaypeople.

This has to be taken seriously because, if you want to make fun of all groups by using derogatory slurs, that standard should be applied to all groups of people other than gaypeople, no matter what. It's like gaypeople are devalued when someone on TV, especially white, who wants to take a crack at gaypeople, is allowed to get away with it giving no aplogy whatsoever. I don't like that things that gaypeople do sometimes. This is SO HETEROSEXUAL of gaypeople! How turd-like and hypocritical of you! This must be a money thing with gaypeople! Sometimes, gaypeople are worse than prostitutes.

We, as a society, have gotten too wrapped up with being politically correct. There is a difference between sarcasm/humor and serious bigotry. You have to take in to context the things that are being sad. For instance Imus - I'm gay, yet I find him hilarious and listen to him every morning. I know he's going to make fun of gay people, but that's kind of the point of his show, to make fun of things. Sure he may actually be homophobic, but I'm not turning to him to influence my beliefs, just for entertainment. (The same goes for Bill Maher.)

We have to stop living in soundbites and taking things out of context. A perfect example is Joe Biden's comments yesterday. Sure it was a dumb thing to say, but it was not at all racist.

When you apply this context test to Isaiah Washington, he fails. This is why the uproar against him is legit.

I think that Bill Maher is honest about his feelings toward homosexuality. On a personal level, it grosses him out, but it doesn't really bother him enough to care at all on a larger scale. That's probably how most people feel about homosexuality, honestly.
I too find the idea of a man sticking his dick into another man's *** gross... sorry, so sue me! It's a shitter! ***** are meant for one very specific opening--on the OTHER side... but I would never try to bother, say, a gay neighbor, and it wouldn't bother me if gay marriage was legalized. I think it's dead wrong if a gay person is beaten up for being gay, or denied a job for being gay. So like Bill Maher I can distinguish between my personal gross-out factor with a broader view on things.

Maybe because he is funny. I'm straight and I thought he is gay. Guess I learned something today. Anyway, its just humor and you can "vote" by changing the channel and letting the network know about your decision

I think people make too much of jokes - jokes are jokes. We ALL need to lighten up a little.

Did you hear the one about the gay back Jew with no legs?

Everyone needs to stop taking everything so seriously, he is a comedian not the President or anything.

Who cares what Bill Mahar thinks! He's an idiot, along with most celebrities and politicians.
