How many calories should i cosume? I know that the average make should consume 2,500. But i am on the slim fast diet, and it says to eat about 1,500.So, when i am done with the diet should i stay at 1500 or go to 2000? i think that would make me gain weight unless i exercised more often. And is is ok to exercise everyday? Examples; Walking, jogginf for 30 minutes. I am 22, 5'10 and exercise about 3-5 times a week. i have a medium build. i want to lose weight and I am currently 185 lbs. I want to get down to a 150-160. Also what are good ways to flatten your belly?

What you should do is get off the slim fast diet because you are probably spending the same amount of money for the shakes and all that stuff that you would be if you just went to the grocery store and bought healthy foods. And with healthy foods, you can eat like that forever...you don't have to go on the diet and go off...thats why diets never work! But if you need the "dieting" feeling then by all means, stick with it. Whatever works for you.

Also, know that the first week or so will be the hardest. You will want to eat more...you will have cravings, but if you ignore those you will be fine and the diet will work for you.

I recently tried this diet where you were supposed to drink lemon juice with maple syrup and cayenne pepper. You are supposed to only drink that for 10 days and then resume your normal eating habits. I figured that wasn't healthy because what you are doing is basically fasting and you aren't giving your body the nutrients and vitamins that it needs. I did, however, replace soda with that drink and it was ok. I wouldn't really recommend it. After about a week of doing that diet I decided to just go to the store and buy more fruits, veggies, low salt/fat soups, yogurt, cheese, orange-grapefruit-v8 juice, and 93% lean ground sirloin (to make burgers or whatever). I was probably eating about 3000-4000 calories per day and dropped that to around 1500-2000 calories per day. I have been trying to eat like that for about the past 3 weeks and so far I have lost 6+ pounds. And you might be thinking, "1500 calories per day...that isn't enough food, I am going to be hungry." Well, you will be surprised because 1500 calories is plenty of food if you are eating the right kinds of food. A normal day for me would consist of:

breakfast:

bowl of cereal
glass of juice
banana or other piece of fruit

lunch:

sandwich or can of soup
salad w/ dressing
fruit (either frozen or fresh...not canned)
cheese
water

dinner:

bowl of salad
bowl of frozen fruit
cheese and crackers
maybe a piece of bread with peanut butter

NO SODA!

And of course it is ok to exercise 3+ days per week. You should be doing about 30 minutes or more each day. Wether it be lifting weights, walking through your neighborhood, running, swimming, biking, or anything else that increases your movement.

Here are a few exercises you can do every day (I recommend doing them when you wake up in the morning and right before you go to bed).

Go 45 seconds on and 15 seconds off:

-regular crunches
-crunches with your knees to your right (keep your legs turned, not your upper body)
-crunches with your knees to your left (keep your legs turned, not your upper body)
-full sit-ups
***5-10 good push-ups (regular)
-crunches to your right, middle, and left (legs strait or bent like you would be doing regular crunches or sit-ups and do a crunch to your left, go back down, up to the middle, go back down, and then up to the right)
-flutter kicks/vertical kicks (hands at your side on the ground or under your butt and keep your legs strait, point your toes, and keep your feet 6 inches off the ground)
-mini leg raises (like flutter kicks, but move both legs at once)
-v-ups (lay flat on the ground and sit up and as you sit up, bring your legs up and try to touch your toes)
***5-10 good push-ups (hands outside your shoulders (wide grip))
-leg raises (lay back, hands on ground or under butt and bring your legs off the ground so they are 90 degrees and then bring them back to the ground)
-crunches with your feet above your knees
-crunches with bicycle kicks (lay on your back, hands behind your head and do crunches and then move your legs in and out like you are riding a bike)
-crunches on your right side (lay completely on your side and sit up towards the ceiling)
***5-10 good push-ups (touch your index fingers and thumbs together so your hand resembles a diamond or triangle and do push-ups like that (diamond push-ups)
-crunches on your left side (lay completely on your side and sit up towards the ceiling)
-crunches with a twist (as you sit up, twist to both sides and then sit back down)
-crunches with a twist and bicycle kicks
-superman (lay on your stomach, hands strait out in front and lift your arms and legs off the ground)
***5-10 good push-ups (regular)

Try it out...what have you got to loose!

There are different amounts for everyone. Yes, you can exercise everyday but you will get burnt out and plato quickly. Instead of counting calories you should concentraite on eating 5-6 small meals a day. You want to keep your matabilism up which eating often does. If you only drink your two shakes and eat one good meal your body will think it is staving and not burn fat it will actually conserve every calorie you eat. Hopefully before you start your diet you check with your doctor to make sure it is ok. Especially if you have any sort of health problems.
I think that 150-160 on a man of your height is not good. You will look too thin. Here is a web site that will help you with your ideal weight http://www.halls.md/ideal-weight/body.htm
Remember too that in addition to cardio you will want to do strength training regardless of wanting to build muscle. As for the abs crunch away. It will take time to shape yourself. Stability balls are good for working the core of the body. Hope this helps.

You should find out exactly how many calories your body burns just being you, not doing anything special like exercise. Then consume that many calories each day. For me its 1400. So I only eat 1400 calories per day. This ensures that I'm at least burning what I'm taking in and not gaining weight. But then, on top of that, you want to burn MORE calories to LOSE weight. So exercising is key. It IS ok to exercise everyday. BUT you don't want to do it vigorously. Its better to do heavy weightlifting and intense cardio every other day. Then on the days in between, you can do something light, like a short jog, or just using the stairs at work.

LOTS of crunches. I do about 300 everyday. And eat a lot of nuts and legumes. They really help to burn the fat around your belly.

What ever you do DONT EAT RICE .

RICE IS THE MOST FATTENING FOOD OUT THERE! MANY CARBS!!!

You can eat cakes or pies in the evening, just make sure you go and see your doctor regularly and DONT FORGET TO TAKE YOUR MEDS!
