HI there, the previous responder is correct in assuming that you have a RAM problem. I have attached links to two websites that list beep code patterns and what they mean. Incidentally if this laptop is a toshiba, be aware that some 6000 series and 8000 series toshiba laptops are notorious for having dodgy ram sockets which often causes this behavior. Hope that helps :) IT@tonicweb.co.uk

OK, we all so far agree that this is a RAM problem..
now lets find out...

Step By Step Lets Fix It

1) Power down your system and remove the Battery and power
2) on a table made of wood goto the back side of your laptop.
there shall be a access door on the back with a logo that looks like a chip or the word ram ( if i knew make and model i could say)
3) on most you will need a very small screw driver to open this door.. go on open it up Doc. the problem is inside...
4) stop there don't touch the inside!!! first you need to find a screw on the laptop that is grounded to the Chase the one next to the lock Logo on the out side is best... touch this . give it a good rub ,,{let's name the screw Jennie}
5) now look in the open door the RAM chip's should be right there.
6) we are going to do a couple of different thing from here..
6A) make sure the chip is not loose or out of place. push it into the socket .. Go ahead push firm but not to hard . good.
6B) now with that done lets see if it helped.. go ahead and leave the door open . but battery back in turn the laptop over.
6C) Boot Computer.. is there beep codes. if so write them down

OK Lets go with the idea that did not solve the problem
round two lets go:
repeat steps 1 to 4 as above REMEMBER your Friend Jennie this is the most important part alway rub Jennie before touching the inside of computer

7A) this step only works if you have more than one chip
with out the use of tool reach in that door Doc and remove one of the RAM chips put this chip on the "Wood Table"
7B) repeat set 6) "B & C

How did you do did it boot?
"yes" than you have a bad RAM chip and it's on the table
"No" move on to step 8)

8) Repeat steps 1 to 4 "{ Rub Jennie }"
8A) remove the other RAM chip place it on "wood table"
8B) put the other Ram chip back into the socket it was in
8C) Repeat 6) B & C

How did you do did it boot?
"yes" than you have a bad RAM chip and it's on the table
"No" move on to step 9)

9) Repeat steps 1 to 4 "{ Rub Jennie }"
9A) but the chip back into it socket
9B) Close Door on computer

10) if you found a bad RAM chip head out to the computer shop and get a new one and you will have a happy computer doc good job..

if this did not find the problem you must say it was fun..
but you can GIVE MORE INFO on your system :
Make:
Mode:
OS:
RAM:
you have the idea GOOD LUCK and i hope this did the job..

If your system has only one RAM chip just take it to a shop if you find a good shop they will have Known Good Test chip's and they can work over the computer for you

As you did not name the BIOS of the laptop or even the brand, it's not easy to be precise, and what comes in between 2...1? A pause?
Anyway, you can cheack it out for yourself at if you can get to another PC: http://www.mcsx.co.uk/beep-codes.php

Yes, depends on the BIOS manufacturer, but I'd agree with gophur, does indeed sound like RAM.

I am not seeing any match for 1.4.2.1

Here is a page of BIOS codes - It varies some by manufacturer, this page has all the major ones.
