Bush’s last few statements about Iran sound alarmingly familiar. He claims that Ahmadinejad is an evil dictator; that Iranians are oppressed and cannot “flourish"; that Iran is a threat to the security of the United States, etc. I’m not suggesting that these observations are false. However, isn’t that exactly what Bush said about Iraq when he was selling us on the idea to launch an all-out war against them? Is war with Iran imminent? Will the United States declare war on every nation we perceive as a threat even if they’ve never actually attacked us? Is North Korea next?

Yeah, it does all sound eerily familiar. God knows that Iran and North Korea always posed a greater threat than Iraq. Maybe if North Korea had major oil reserves, we would've already gone after them by now.

Many feel he was right about Iraq! We'll never know what would have happened has we not acted.

Iran may well be a threat, too.

But your main point is also what worries me. Nukes are too easy to get - do we have to invade every rogue state threatening to obtain them? Or do we just have to live with crazies having nukes and possibly passing them off to terrorists? NEITHER solution looks good.

35 years ago, I had one of the first calculators sold to the public. It did simple arithmetic, only. It cost over $100, which in today's dollars might be $200. Today, much more sophisticated calculators are given away - they're cheaper than a stick of gum!

My point is that nuclear technology is becoming easier to obtain, including the ability to enrich uranium.

I fear it's a matter of time before one is used on an enemy, and that "enemy" is most probably the US.

We have to figure out the best course to prevent, or delay, that from happening.

God help us.

Notrh Korea, although a more potent, though not all that dangerous, threat, is off limits because of it's shared borders with the People's Republic of China. It has sounded like the Bush Administration has been building a case to invade Iran for some time. A major problem is verification of the existence of weapons or the making of weapons. Right now, it is strong language that is being tossed around.

I think he is going on the assumption that most Americans really do not know much about Iran. He seems to think that people are not intelligent enough to research the country of Iran and how the people live themselves.

Bush is just saying this so that he can avoid taking blame for the war in Iraq going badly. It is not his fault, he has a plan it is just those damn Iranians and their crazy leader hate freedom and the USA so much they keep funding the insurgents, terrorists, whatever they are calling them today.
