Though even reaching the moon is possible only for huge and govt-owned technology giants like NASA, several private companies have been claiming to own the moon and have been selling moon real estate. Eg;

"finders-keepers" attitude don't work in space.
Outer Space Treaty(signed by all major space powers),explicitly forbid any government from claiming a celestial resource such as the Moon or a planet since they are common heritage of humanity

By a treaty (the name of which escapes me at the moment) no one country can lay claim to the moon.

Although the Americans planted their flag on the moon, they did it in the name of all mankind. The major countries signed a treaty to say that the moon does not belong to any one country but to all mankind.

Nobody. I guess you could say all of earth ownes the moon. But there is no official country that owns it.

I agree with the Indian natives outlook on this one. No one is the owner of anything. To truly own it you would have to be immortal. How can you own anything if your dead?
