I woke up this morning and noticed that the bank made a $2,200 bank error in my favor. I know it sounds like a monopoly game, but it actually happened to me.
I know , I know what I should do morally but I am a college student and struggling and it would be niccceeeeeeeee.
I live in Las vegas, does anyone know what Nevada's laws are in regards to bank error. I know it varies from state to state.
Has this happened to anyone? Did you actually keep it? How long did it take?
Thanks,
Poor, Desperate, College Gal

Don't do it!! Once the person who should have received that money finds out that there is an error the bank will do the research and come get the money in your account. There is no law for you to hide behind, it's not your money and the bank will come to get it back sooner or later. It's not about doing the right thing morally, call the bank and tell them what happened before your account gets totally hosed over and you can't get to any of your money. You will be struggling a whole lot more when the seize all the money in your account until you pay back the money you took that wasn't yours. A negative balance of $2,200 will take you a while to pay back if you choose to ignore this warning. Tution and rent don't wait, so you make the choice as to what to do.

Ok as unfortunate as it can be Banks do make errors. To be quiet frank, I have had customers that bring errors to our attention that are months old. I don’t think we would have ever caught it had it not been brought up to our attention. However, a $2000 error will be caught before long and I do recommend you notify your bank. Unfortunately they will not give you anything for being honest. There is no law that holds the bank liable for an error like that. You should know what you have in the bank and there would not be any excuse in the event that you spent that money, you would be held accountable for it. Good Luck.

The bank WILL find this error. YOU are never in favor of anything when it comes to banks operations. It could take a month but they will find it.
You could be the NICE customer and go show them what they did and get on the good side of them.
This happened to me. I went back to the bank and explained what took place. The teller that made the mistake will always see me as being the most honest person she knows now !!
Do what is right and you will be rewarded. Something good will come your way.
What goes around DOES come around !

Don't start writing checks just yet. Eventually the bank will discover the error and you are legally liable for returning the money. Its best to just notify the bank that you believe there is an error.

Don't think they can do anything to your legally as it is an error but I am pretty sure for that amount of money they will eventually find it especially if the person it does belong to complains to the bank. So don't count your chickens yet.

They are going to figure it out at some point... When they do they are going to take the $2,200 back. If you spent some of the money and this makes your account negative, you will be responsible for the overdraft charges.
Leave it in there if you don't want to report it, but I wouldn't spend it and I would expect them to figure it out sooner than latter.

the bank has quite some time to discover the error and getting the money back from you. if you took the money and spent it, you'd still be liable for the claim and you'd screw up your credit, etc if you don't pay it back. just call the bank and tell them, you'll feel good about that at least. maybe they'll give you something for free for being so honest.

Don't spend it! You should point it out to them but even if you don't, don't spend it, put it in another interest bearing account. Eventually the bank will notice and they will take it back and if you have spent it they will give you a loan which will end up costing you money.

when i was 19, the teller gave me a $100 more than i had signed for. i returned it immediately. at another time (same year) i paid $200 more (in error) for a service. i was told of my mistake and received my $200 back. you may make a mistake in favour of someone else. do what is right. the only thing right.

You don't get to keep it.
The bank will take it back as soon as they are notified of the error.
If you spend it, the bank will come after you for the money.
