Is it legal for a company to ban you IP address from even viewing there website?

I was banned from www.howardforums.com for having mutiple accounts that originated from one IP address. When in reality the accounts were used by different people from the same computer (work). I was told by the mod that they believe all accounts were one person since they all shared the same attitude. That attitude was deffending a company we all work for and own part of. The funny part is now I can't even view anything on the website. I just get a message that my IP address is blocked.

Is this legal and how can I determine what state the website is in?

I would imagine that it would be.

Websites are private property and I would imagine that the infamous "We Reserve the Right" kind of protections may apply

Yes it is legal.

More accurately, it is not illegal. No laws against it and you have no "rights" to access someone elses website.

Your best bet is to email the webmaster with an explanation from another IP address using webmail. The site may have terms and conditions of use that preclude using multiple accounts from the same IP. It is a pretty standard clause.

Either use a proxy server or check it from another computer...like at home. View the site and there is more than likely a "contact us" section with information or a phone number you can call.

Of course it's legal. Viewing a website is a privilege not a right. It's their website, therefore they have all the rights to ban you that they need.
