Depends how long you're going for. If you go for a week. Bring two sets of evening outfits (cocktail dress, something glam) to wear to dinner. Bring the usual swimwear, stuff to lounge around go to the beach in. Usual holiday wear, and a sweater for evenings on the deck, can sometimes be quite windy early/late in the day.
There are usually lots of nice bars to drink in on the ship and it feels nice to get dressed up. Dont overload yourselves with towels as these are provided for you to use on board and to take to the islands.
In short you can never bring too much on a cruise.
Also bring sea sickness pills just incase, it can take a couple of days to adjust and bring headache tablets too.

The obvious stuff: bathing suits, sunscreen, shades, casual summer attire, bug repellant that doesnt smell too bad, toiletries, passport (bahamas may require it), camera, enough spending cash for the trip, a credit card or two
And also: your own stash of alcohol (it aint cheap on the boat), one outfit for formal attire since some crusieships have restaraunts with strict dress codes, small lightweight things for downtime, like a coupla good books or playing cards, medicine to combat seasickness you may get the first night on board, hangover - oops, i mean headache - medicine, in case you go for the nightlife, and maybe your ipod or equivalent portable music device
And as always a good attitude and a vociferous appetite!
Hope that helps

You would basically pack as you would if you were going on a beach vacation, with a couple of nicer things thrown in.
Check your specific ship's website and they will give you some good hints. I recently went on my first cruise too and there was a lot I didn't know, so I wrote this article on wehow about how to get ready... check it out at the link below and bon voyage!

You'll need a passport. Also make sure to pack bathing suites, flip flops, shorts, t-shirts and also a dressy outfit. The second night is usually the Captain's Reception and everyone dresses formal. Also, make sure you take some headache medicine, Tylenol, Advil, Motrin (whichever you like). I also took Dramamine for motion sickness and Pepto Bismol. Just make sure you go prepared. Even if you don't get sick, at least you're prepared. Have fun!!

Make sure you have money to tip your waiter at the end of the cruise, the bag handler and the steward (tip him at the beginning).
