And we should celebrate giving and peace all year, not just Christmas. We should be thankful all year, not just Thanksgiving. We should appreciate our mothers, our country, the sacrifices of others, etc. every day.

I think it is nice to occasionally have a time to make a special effort at remembering what we should always remember.

Certainly, you don't have to buy into the over-commercialization of it, but you can have a great time without buying a single pink or red thing!

It is in human nature to be selfish - self preservation. We take advantage of people and don't appreciate them. We are too busy in our own lives to be bothered by the needs of others. If Valentine's Day did not exist, then many people would never be recognized for all that they do for another that they love.
