It means your cycle is a little shorter but normal. Instead of 28-30 days it is like 20 or something. It it absolutely normal, trust me on that one. I went to doc with this problem before because my period would start on for example 10th and next one would start on 3rd of next month.....(giving you that 7 day window that you wonder about) so it give you 23 day cycle....which is fine...

It really isn't something to be concerned about as it happens to a lot of women, me included. I can have one cycle at the beginning of the month and depending on how long in between the previous cycle and the new one, I sometimes get 2 periods in the same month. My cycles are almost never on time and have been irregular for years and there is nothing wrong with it. When I do get it, I only have it for 3 days, 4 tops now (I used to go 7 for years and then 6,5,4 and now three and I like that). I do try to time it and count the days from the last one and as to when I am expecting the next one and sometimes I am early, late or on time.

The main thing is that you are not bleeding in between your cycles as this is cause for concern. Also, if you are getting them, be thankful as your body is telling you things are okay. I have also gone a month not having one but 2 months is the max you should be going without one. Any after that is worth investigating.
