I think something like, "Oh, hes missing some fingers" or, "She has a prosthetic arm", then not much else. If they are performing some action, I might notice how well they perform.

I am slightly curious how they came to lose the limb, but it's a fleeting thought. I know there is thousands of ways that it can happen. I make a mental note to care for my own limbs.

if they are friend of mine, I think the same thing I think with anyone else - that i'm happy to see them.
If not, i would really only think about if if they looked like they needed a little help, ya know, opening a door or something - same thing I would do for someone carry a child or a heavy package.
Sounds superficial, but i think i only notice whether or not someone is pleasant looking - no. of arms/legs aren't really worth noting as part of a 1st impression if the person takes care of what they do have!

My grandma lost both of her legs to a vascular disease, so I am used to seeing amputees. Usually I would wonder what caused the amputation.

I think...that's so sad but at least they're still alive. I always wonder what happened to them too. I actually work for an orthotics and prosthetics company so...I see the casting and custom equipment...its pretty freaking cool...

Me too, I wonder what happened to that person, and feel a certain sadness, not pity - but just something that makes you realize that life can be difficult.

1) Ouch. Wonder what happened?
2) Wonder what it would take to build a prosthetic for that?

it makes me wonder what happened, it makes me want to get to know them more personally. and last, it makes me learn to cherish life because random things like that could happen any second and could change the way you live/look at life forever ..
