It's not the profession that makes a person it's the person themselves. They are doing their job just like we all do. Unfortunately, in any job you have lazy workers. There are a lot of go-getters in the real estate profession and many have great personalities and a pleasure to deal with!

Most agents are fair and honest, we like to avoid law suits as much as possible, and with the whole world sue happy most of us work hard, and are fair.
Its a hard job, and can be stressful so some seem like jerks, but on a whole most are working hard for you, not just the sale. We work on a referral based business so it does not help to be a "slimy agent" as someone above mentioned.
You will find that most have so much more knowledge than the average home owner that the sale goes smooth.
I dont know why everyone is afraid of us, we are here to help you.

most are just people trying to make a living in a tough business.
some of them are shady and some of them are really nice.
they are trying to make money, just like anybody who is working for a living. They work for the seller, that's who pays them.
Selling things is a lot of work. Sometimes you have to show a house 40 or 50 times before you get an offer.

As a whole most are regular nice people. Like any profession there are good and bad. What is your opinion of car mechanics? Car dealers? It's a case of go with your gut feelings.

The same as my opinion of all other sales people - a little slimy and I often don't trust them.
