Deja vu is Fench for "already seen." The term in English refers to the sensation people get when memory signals in the brain misfire and you feel as though you have already seen something before, even though you haven't. Some people get deja vu frequently, some people get it less often. What happens is that when your eyes transfer information to your brain, your brain either recieves the signal twice, making you think you've already seen whatever you're looking at; or the info recieved is converted to longterm memory before it is converted to short term memory, making you think that you remember seeing it before, even if you're seeing it for the first time. This can happen for only an instant or it can go on for several seconds. The longer it goes on, the stranger it feels.

You experience 'deja vu' when you "feel" you have already experienced the same situation that is happening currently, in the same place, with the same people, saying the very same things and such...

Its a feeling you get that can only be expressed by the French language. Much like ménage à trois.

It's french
deja= already
vu= seen
so it would mean you have seen that before, at least in your mind!
